With that list I take it cost is not too big a deal so I say Ducati.

If you're going to get a Honda Shadow I would recommend you get one with larger displacement, I had an 1100 and that thing packed a major punch when you twisted the throttle. I'm not really a fan of the monster, while I imagine they're loads of fun I just think they're ugly as sin. Pass on the Harley, nothing else to say on that. If it were me I'd probably pick up the bandit because 1200 cc naked bikes are just too fun for words.

I'd buy the Ducati.

Don't get down on Harleys  - at least the new ones - until you've put a few thousand miles on one - and after you've done that I'd wager you won't get down on Harleys.  They are outstanding motorcycles, extremely well built and an absolute pleasure to ride.  They also bring out a pride of ownership unlike any other motorcycle on the planet.  One thing I have noticed over the years (and I've owned both Harley's and Hondas in about equal numbers for over 40 years) is that most people who badmouth Harleys have never so much as ridden one, let alone owned one.

I've ridden a couple so I'm not opposed to them as a sheep, I formed my opinion based on the fact that I don't like how they feel. I don't think you were aiming that at me per say, I'm just saying...

i like the honda because of the way it's set up
good ground clearance plenty of power
the ducati is pure sex
however my wife likes to ride on the back, not much seat there for a mature woman
the harley is a little pricey and again the back seat is an issue
but for a harley it is set up pretty good
never road the 1200 bandit
heard alot of good about it
need to test drive one before i make a call on that one

I have had a few of them, really depends on your style of riding and all that crap.

The HD was a blast, put 20k on it in two years. With the clip-ons and rear sets it was fun !
.
The Ducati was sexy, Monster 900, and that was about it, (at the dealer more than on the road)

The Bandit was totaly Kick ass, loved it, rode the piss out of it, it left in 3 boxes
If I had to do it all over again the HD is the bike of choice for just going out and about,
The Ducati was the bike to go cruze down town seattle and then park at starbucks for hours.
The Bandit was the all around bike, it was fast, ez to ride and just plane fun. I did blow a rod but thats a different story, and not the bikes fault in any way.. Redline is there for a reason, dont push it for days on end.

Assuming leaving out Royal enfield wasn't just an oversight,
I vote Harley.

You should at least get a test ride on these bikes before finally deciding.  ?

I am sure Buell made decent bikes but that is past tense.
Did Hardley say that they would stock parts for them and for how long?

Rode an older bandit before, awesome bike!  All around nice!  The guy who owned it said it was his favorite bike ever, good looks, naked, LOTS of power, great handling...  I love the XR1200's, I think they're so tits!! I'm not the biggest Harley fan, just too many on the road and mainly the riders who give the brand a bad name...  But those are my choices!!

Duc's are sex, but theyre costly to maintain, and they have a nasty habit of being high maintenance little #$%*es, haha!!

The Harley XR 1200 is 540# in race trim. That company does not build motorcycles but boat anchors. Look how much lighter the ducati is. Light is good, unless you are Harley person, when apparently the heavier, the better. Harley Davidson = bike for people who hate corners.

Have you ridden an XR before?  Barleys aren't know for handling capabilities, but this bike is...  Go take one for a spin and you'll be quite impressed!!  Especially if you throw some rearsets on there, and maybe some goodies from Storz performance! :)
