Probing for interest: blade-type fuseholders?
« on: February 03, 2011, 08:45:21 PM »
Thinking of a new 'product' for these bikes: a fully-wired, plug-in, bolt-on ATC fuseholder replacement fuseblock for the CB750K3-K8/F bikes. It might fit the 550 as well: I don't have a 550 block on hand to see if the bolt holes are the same dimensions (someone else know for sure?).

It will come with a little wiring harness to match the plug on the bike's wire harness so it drops right in. These have a little water splash cover (boating products) to help in the wet.

Poll: how many might be interested, so I can make a buy of parts? The final price would vary based on the number of parts I can buy at once.

UPDATE: ====
Now that I'm finding myself making them  :o :
Please, if you want one, take a look at your fuseholder and let me know if yours has the 15 amp fuse at the TOP or the BOTTOM of your existing holder. For example, the 750F in the picture (later in this post) has it on the bottom circuit (the RED wire circuit, if you can see your wires), while some bikes have it on the TOP (where the RED wires will show up on those). Thus, I can send it to you in the right configuration...I'd hate for you to get one upside-down and blow the 5 amp fuse as soon as you turned on your key...  ???

I'd be very interested in this, seems like a great idea, nice and easy mod, and have been having a real problem finding those little glass fuses around in the right size.
Only problem is of course, college has me rather short on money.  So i'd go on a tentative list, based on price.

Mark,

I'd be interested in one for my 750K4.

I'd also be interested in one for my 550K3 where it not that I already have one.  I got it from the forum member whose name we do not mention.  I'd be happy to send you pictures or measurements of the 550 box if you need them.  Or I could send you the OEM pig tail if you need it in 3D.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Include me in if they are waterproof and not too expensive.

If you find a good waterproof one I might want it in kit form to get an excuse to bust out the solder station and sniff a little flux and lead fumes.  :)

I would be intrested. I have two 750F's that need fuse blocks. Was already thinking of trying an ATC type one, but I sure would like to see what you could come up with!! Especially if it was "fully wired, plug in, bolt on" ready!! Would it have the same amount of fuses as stock or would your blocks have an extra or two?

I could use one for a 73 750K and 76 cb550K, both are due to be rewired soon.  Let me know price, and because the wiring loom will be custom the 750 connector will be fine.  Could you also have for sale the mating connector, too?

The one that Oregon has is a bare fuesblock.  I think HondaMan (correct me if I'm wrong) is offering one with connector and wires.  I believe it will be more of a "drop in" unit.

For a drop in turn key unit, you can count me in of the price is reasonable.

Count me in for my K5 I was considering this mod but a plug and play for pay is attractive.

Hondaman- do you have a ball park price?

It sounds like there's enough interest: I'll arrange a buy of some units. I don't know their price break points yet, but with electrical stuff it can be either significant or irrelevant, depending on the vendor.

This would be a 'replacement part', as if you were installing a new one from Honda with connector and all. It will just use the modern blade fuses instead of the 1"/25mm long AGX glass fuses. It will also have a water resistant cover.

Once I find out the prices, I'll post a cost.  :)

Hondaman, Great idea.

However, I was hoping you would market your Center Stand "Assist" thingy first.

That garage floor is sooo slick! Of course, your "block of wood" idea is still working!
