Dampers in rear wheel

I was wondering if anyone knows what the purpose of the dampers in the rear wheel are for? I am missing one of the little ones but had the wheel and tire balanced with it missing. Will that affect anything?

Those rubbers are the connection between your final drive sprocket and the rear wheel and serve to cushion the shock loads between the final drive chain and the rear wheel. If you take all of them out you would hear a distinct "clang" as the sprocket hub smacks the inside of the wheel hub each time you accelerate/deccelerate.

You shouldn't ride the bike with any of the dampers missing!   :o
You could damage the hub, carrier, and the chain!
The dampers are still available new from Honda.

You'll be the monkey in the cage getting experimented on. Tell us how it turns out.
Probably missing one would be OK but maybe Honda put them all in there because they're all needed. I think you should have them all, but if you have to ride it as is no big deal. If it's fine for 10,000 miles I doubt if anybody else will remove one to save the weight.
