68 CB350 fuel line routing?
« on: March 03, 2011, 03:20:38 PM »
Know this isn't the twin forum but it takes 8 years to get any responses over there and need this info asap. I purchased my 68 cb350 a couple days ago and recently started working on it and the PO had run the fuel tank equilizer lines straight to the carbs and just screwed a pipe cap over the petcock threads. trying to figure out how the fuel lines are supposed to be routed but have searched and searched and can't find any info. Looked in the manuals and doesn't seem to be any info on how the lines are supposed to go. Assume two lines off the petcock go straight to the carb (might put in-line filters in there somewhere to be safe), but how do the lines run from the tubes coming out of either side of the tank?

A single line connects those two fuel outlets. It runs straight from one to the other, under the frame backbone. New petcocks are still available, or you can get a used one and rebuild it with repair parts from Honda. This assumes the PO hasn't buggered the threads on the tank. The petcock has a filter screen that does a very good job, so you don't need any in-line filters. If you decide to install some anyway, don't use pleated paper. They're too restrictive for a gravity feed system. Hope the pic helps. BTW, that fuel line is genuine Honda 5.5mm. It stays soft and flexible. Part #95001-55008-60M.

Womp Womp, got the NOS petcock in and mounted it last night and looked at if for a second and realized that this isn't the stock tank....the petcock on the stock tank must be on the left NOT the right like this one. LAME. The inlet on the right side carb is on the left side and I played around with the routing for awhile but have no idea how im going to get the line to run to it with a constant slope...thinking im going to have flow issues unless I change carbs or tanks :(.

I believe you're mistaken - all CB/CL 350 had petcocks on the rider's right side, AFAIK.....
It's unlikely you'd be able to fit a tank from a different model without modifications, as these old Honda tanks are pretty model-specific - there are exceptions, of course........

SL350 had the petcock on the left side - I don't know if one would mount to a CB/CL, personally - maybe someone else here does......

You don't need a constant slope, either.  Look at the pictures posted above.  That's how they go.  It also should give you routing ideas if you have non-stock bits and pieces.

'taint that difficult...  :)

Kirk's right - all you need is gravity, we have plenty of that.
As long as the tank is higher than the float bowl, you're good.........

k, will try and take some picures though to see if anyone has suggestions, the fuel inlet on the right carb is on the left side of the cab not at the bottom and routing it back and down has a really awkward angle unless I rout it through where the throttle cable is between the cable and the carb but would be worried about it rubbing. going the other way would have it wrapping around the carb.......need to take some pics. Thanks for the info on the petcock location though...the original tank the owner said had the kneepads, know alot of stuff on the 68's were different from all other years, so just assumed the petcock might have been on the other side.

Let's see some pics. Sounds like the PO may have grafted incorrect carbs onto the bike. Maybe a Mikuni conversion? If the carbs are stock, the fuel inlet should be at the bottom rear on your '68 as in the drawing below.

Yeah no they must have been replaced with some different used ones, the hose inlets are on the left sides of the carburetors just above the bowls.
