Not sure about total loss, as Shorai does caution against completely draining the battery....and with total loss it would be too easy to unintentionally drain it too much.

I have a few bikes, and one of the advantages of the Shorai was the smaller size, and I am able to swap the battery from bike to bike

Husky 610 is the one that benefits the most as the battery box is not very strong, and the bike needs a good battery to start, as it cranks slow.

anybody have a lead on these batteries? I have looked and can not fin any. Talked to the guy a cycle salvage and he said that they are waiting on Shorai to get some more. They said that they were re doing the battery to make it better. Thats great but i need one now.

after i wrote the previous post i emailed Shorai asking when they would have batteries and received this email, less then 30 min later.

We had expected stock arrival on April 25th, but hit a delay of about 10 additional days due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. I also tried to buy a Shorai a few weeks ago but none were available. I ordered an MDA123.8 from Bellissimoto.com whicharrived in about two weeks and works as advertised. I chose the larger 8 cell because I retained the electric start and it fits easily under the CR750 seat. It's still at project stage, but I did start it to test the battery. Since all fuel had been drained it cranked for a while but the battery worked fine.

Guys! You can place the order yourself at Shorai. Somesuch arranged for a perpetual discount of 15% for SOHC members. I'm just waiting for them to restock. I bought one of the 4 cell batteries that was sold on the forum, and was reported to be able to turn over a motor. Not!

You can buy them direct OR you can buy them from the guy somesuch posted. I didnt tell him I was a SOHC4 member and he still told me he sells them at 15% discount from what shorai's website says.

I am going to go with the 210 cold cranking amp battery. The 135 CCA battery will probably do well with a stock motor. I have no question that the 210 CCA battery will work as I have one in my Rotax powered Aprilia; with no starting issues whatsoever. It's the same size as, and only .5 lbs heavier (1.6 lbs total weight) than the 135 CCA battery so it's a no-brainer for me. For those days that the bike just doesn't want to fire up, I want to have plenty of juice on tap.

FYI, I think that most popular sizes should be back in stock at Santa Clara Cycle Salvage (SCCS) I talked to the guys there today, and they said that they were getting a bunch in today. I needed two sizes, and it appears that while 18AH battery was available, the 24AH is still on back order

Really? I talked to them today to and they said they should have them in by the end of the month! I said F it and went to the web site and ordered a battery and their charger with 2 day shipping. Ill let you know when it gets here.

I bought one of those last Thursday. I haven't installed it yet, though. They are like half the size of the standard CB550 battery.
A was going to try an AGM battery. But, they are all too big for the CB550 battery case. Anybody know of a 12 V AGM battery, that is the same size or smaller than standard 12N12A-4A-1, and has the same post polarity orientation. The 750 size is just too big.

Anyway, I figured I need more than one battery for all my CB550s. Now I have two to distribute!

Perhaps I should add that I do have the correct charger/tester for the LiFePO4 battery. We'll see if the bike can keep it charged properly. I have no incentive to ride in the rain we are having right now, though.

I could have bough two or three standard batteries for the price of the Shorai. So, it better last three times as long. I'm hoping it will stay good without the constant tender connection.
The Lipoly batteries stay up at full power for a very long time on the shelf. I'm gambling that the Shorai will, too.

Begin long term testing.

Having read up on the charging difference of the lifepo4 I also purchased the correct charger. I think the bike will charge it fine but I want to be sure its balanced correctly.
