CB400f muffler/header connection
« on: February 08, 2011, 02:21:21 PM »
I have mounted a repop stock muffler from David Silver Spares onto my stock header collector and have noticed exhaust blowing out from the connection.  The collar seems be simply a crimp fit around the muffler with a bolted connection...I've tightened it down all the way but clearly it's not an airtight joint.  I don't see a gasket of any kind in the parts diagram.

Anybody have a similar experience and/or some advice for me?

Check it on Bikebandit.com.  A gasket is required.

Ah yes....it seems there's a thing described as a "Muffler Gasket" required there.   :(

Clearly my perceptive powers are a tad lacking.

Thanks!

There should be a copper crush gasket between the exhaust valve and the crimp fitting. Reference number 43 on the picture below part number 18291-028-000.
