Cwchan. i just ordered from David Silver and received the order in 3 days. Perhaps UK to Canada is quicker.

DSS often has parts that are not available any place else. I got a NOS swingarm (including swingarm/shock bushings) for $60..

I always check the DSS website as their stock changes and some rare items pop up sometimes.

Cheers,
David

Several years back I shipped a cb650 crank + cylinder piston set to Australian(from UK) for one of our members.

Shipping cost BY SEA/LAND was £85 and quoted at up to 12 weeks, after 16 weeks i got onto UK post office and said it had not arrived and was told it had sat in a container in UK for 8 weeks waiting for it to fill, Having gone ape and threatening to sue for breach of contract they refunded me the shipping cost but said they would pay nothing for contents as it had not been insured---i didnt care as i gave him the bits and he paid shipping.

So when it arrived at his door a further 2 weeks later  (18 weeks or 50% OVER max time quoted) and I sent him a lump of his shipping cost back in Australian beer vouchers he was well happy.

Moral Dont blame the seller its normaly the shipper, PLUS for all youz guys who ordered in December Christmas in UK really stuffs up the system
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

....and here's a bit more info on shipping, to Australia at least.
I bought some tyres, 5 in various sizes to be exact from [url]http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com//url] and they went from Utah USA to Melbourne Australia in 3 days.
Yep, 3 days !!!!

I bought a Gordon frame kit from Brendan at Hednut (who happens to be, IMO, one of life's gentlemen and a damn good operator) it took 10 weeks, to the day, to get here via Canada Post.
To expedite the parcel would have cost an additional $85.
I wasn't in hurry for it so it wasn't a problem.

I bought a seat, for my DR650 from a guy in Saskatchewan and that took four months. When it got here there was a can of Canada's excellent brew .... I can't remember the brand but it was almost as good as Aussie beer  :P

I buy stuff from Hong Kong, which is so close I can almost see it ( ..you get what I mean) and the same article can take from 3 days to 3 weeks.

My point is that it's become a crap shoot on how long it's going to take from anywhere to anywhere.
Fact is that I think it's rarely, if ever, the senders fault so communication and patience is the key.

I travel the world quite a bit and I am certain that OBL and his crew are having a real good chuckle as they hide away in some secret cave in the mountainous wastelands of .....stan.

Last Wednesday I ordered parts from Pyramid parts. I thought the parts were coming from the UK and expected to wait for about 3 weeks after reading this thread.

I got my parts in the mail today so it was only a week but the parts were sent from NZ. I would assume the issue is customs coming into the US not things leaving the UK. Either way, I'm not too worried about shipping times. Just be prepared to wait if it's coming from another country.

I'm still waiting for a master cylinder that I ordered from DSS on Dec 23!  Grrrr!

OK, I finally got my master cyclinder yesterday (2/12) that I ordered on 12/23.  While the shipping took a long time, the price was good ($54.60 shipped from UK to US), the quality is even better!  This thing is a work of art!!!  Now to swap out the old one for this beauty!
It took 10 years but she's finally done!

I ordered CB750 K1 faceplates from Lecram (Netherlands - by mail) and sidecovers from Frankenstuff (Mass - by mail).  They both shipped the orders on Fri Jan28th.  Frankenstuff's arrived on Tuesday of this week and Lecram's arrived Thursday of this week.  Not bad for slipping to Atlantic Canada with two weekends in beween the shipping date and receipt.

Also, the quality of Lecram's faceplates and Frankenstuff's sidecovers are excellent. ;D

I have ordered from DSS in the past and the timing is about the same ... about two weeks or less.  The only thing about the DSS order is that the Canadian government makes me pay 13% HST on the order .  This was not the case with Frankenstuff's and Lecrem's orders ... must be due to the dollar value of the purchase. ???

my 2 cents

I ordered some items from DSS at the beginning of Jan - still not here by early Feb, contacted them, they sent some replacement items that arrived in about 4 days. Of course the original shipment arrived the day after I contacted them, murphy's law. ::)
But that was by mail to my PO box rather than the normal courier company (was a small package), and I was told the delay was most likely due to the xmas backlog in Brit Post.
In the past if have had very large items arrive in just a few days, which i was amazed about.
I think we take pot luck with how our packages get handled, but generally it is very good.
Crikey, it can take 2 weeks just to get mail from one side of this country to the other!

they look good,i considered one and emailed dss if they take the standard repair kit, they replied that they didnt know,i believe it has an imperial bore slightly larger than the standard honda one which will give a lesser braking effect, tell us how it works out,i like it.

we dont have to pay the english VAT tax here either,if you import over a thousand dollars of parts to australia we have to pay some sort of duty i think.

After 5 agonizing months  >:( I finally decided to order a complete exhaust system for the old gal (CB750K1) and a few other goodies from DSS  :o.

I ordered them last Sunday morning, they arrived this morning (3 1/2 business days)  ;D ... not bad from England to eastern Canada (most likely via Toronto).   I can barely have something delivered in that time across the city.

Still had to pay the 13% HST  :(, but with the value of the $CDN it does not seem that bad.  The Brits now pay 20% VAT ... geez.

DSS is great to Australia. It's usually 3 to 5 days for heavy/bulk items, 10-14 days for smaller items. They must use a freight company for the big stuff.

It's shipping to the USA that is the problem. After that parcel bombing scare last year, the US introduce a $9 security screening tariff on all packages shipped to the US (the guys down at my local post office call it the Osama tax). This combined with the issues outlined by the original poster means increased shipping times to the USA.

Last I heard the Japanese shipping company EMS are flat out refusing to send small parcels to the US because of the fee.

I've been frequently shipping parts to Europe and Australia and the problem is U.S. Customs.  Because of the recent attempted attacks a lot of packages are being opened and X-rayed.   Now this is stuff that is going out of the Country.  Currently, from what I was told after talking to several U.S. Customs officals, that anything coming from certain countries in Europe are getting held up an extra 1-3 days, versus going out of the Country.   Does that mean that parts from David Silver Spares or CMSNL may take an extra week to get to you instead of the regular time?  May reaction to you guys grow up and accept it as a consequence of doing business overseas versus the United States.

Delivery times are pot luck, especially for smaller items. Standard Airmail seems to be the worst affected,
courier companies seem to be less affected, but are only economical for larger items (over 1ft Square or more then 2Kg)

I have also been told, but Royal Mail are keeping quiet on the subjec, that regular airmail is being sent surface.
Which means delivery times will be affected by their sea departure schedules. It would be nice if RM would
let sellers know, but they have a habbit of refusing to talk about customer service issues. Post offices will
only sell me Airmail stamps to ship to US, they stopped selling surface mail stamps a few years ago!
In the UK anything over 40 years old only needs insurance and Fuel.

Royal Mail quit the surface business a while back and insist everything goes "air mail" (at higher cost)

So they are actually sending the (higher cost) "air mail" by surface ??

I've shipped engine parts around Europe using the internet couriers (www.parcel2go.co.uk for one). You print the customs docs and delivery labels, pay online and they come and collect the package from your home.

That's the way to do it!
