oil seals in crankcase how too
« on: February 11, 2011, 09:29:49 AM »
i have split the cases on my cb400f for camchain (big suprise) i obviously always oil the seals for start up but do i use sealant on the seals in the cases, or install dry (no sealant)
How about the base gasket?
Thanks

Welcome back to the 400F....about time!

I only ever spread the sealant to the seal edge but not the seals. With mating surfaces well cleaned no sealant on the base gasket either.

You changed the cam chain, what about the horseshoe shaped tensioner in the base? Often there are chain wear marks on it that cause problems in movement.

Never used any sealant on the outer surface but would use Belray assembly  lube of all metal surfaces...Larry
