small tip - neat idea
« on: February 09, 2011, 08:07:52 PM »
I don't know how much of this already known but since my kids are growing up, they bring stuff through front door I've never heard of until then. Anyways, we've all heard of Sharpee markers but what I didn't know until yesterday was that they also offer these paint pens:

There's essentially oil based paint in a marker format with fine and medium nibs. They're available in a buch of colors and might be handy depending on your needs.

Obviously something like gloss black can come in handy for things like frame dings, etc. How I found some of the other colors helpful is that since I'm re-wiring some of my café, I might not have a brown wire with a white tracer. I can make all the notes I want about the substituted color I used but I do have brown wire. Their white marker just easily dropped some quick dry paint blobs on the insulation and now I'm back to stock wiring diagrams without having to dig for notes in five years.

More info here:

http://www.sharpie.com/enUS/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=SharpieOil-BasedPaintMarkerMedium

I don't know if they're available at most office depot places, we found these at Michael's  Crafts, don't know of you have them in the US.
This project started in confusion and will end in disarray.

I could see that pin being an option for the black background on the HONDA stator and points covers.

I used a marker or felt pen a while ago on a vise. Black vise with some white spattered on it.. just  gave er a bit of touch-up..
I found a cool old Record deep-jaw combination vise, and a bullet vise..  Think they HAVE to be FIRE RED soon... gotta get some Tremclad.. and get them SPIFFED UP..

There are several brands of this I'm sure, watch for the sale ads at hobby lobby. A friend used to use them to price the fish in the aquariums of his pet store. I figured I'd borrow a few different colors to do an autograph guitar that turned out great multicolored signatures,

Recently I got some more to start another guitar, a J-45 sunburst. I figured neon colors for George Jones, Willie Nelson, ad hopefully Merle Haggard next.

Great colors, The darker colot with George Jones 4"tall john hancock looks great. The next  fuscia on blondeish wasn't good contrast and my Willie is a bit harder to see.

Color matches, now that you mention it, the orange one I have prollu would be a good touch up for the pin 350f stripe.

I used those for frame touch-ups when I had to trim some little brackets and such on my CB, worked well.  I use regular black sharpies to occasionally touch up tiny imperfections on blued guns as well.

kck3,

I don't know how much you care about this, but last week I painted an Alternator and sprocket cover to fill in the background by spraying (Rattle Can Duplicolor, engine paint) it with a match for my frame color and then buffing the top.  The background stayed and it is very crisp and well defined.  On mine it was the word 'Honda" and the decorative scroll-work around it on the alternator cover and the numbers"1-N-2-3-4-5" inlay on the sprocket cover that I filled.  It came out surprisingly good.

Yeah those numbers... one of Honda's better ideas. I mean as long as you don't mind hanging halfway down your bike to check. Brilliant! Guaranteed no more errors shifting. ;D

I like them myself and used them to continue the color theme of my bike.  I have Harleys that I chrome, because the mindless way seems to work best with them.   I don't care much for bikes where the owner didn't give it any thought though, just chromed it or paint it black (flat black for those who have a particularly dull imagination) now that's something about which I'm inclined to say "They Suck".

Just an opinion of course, but I'm pretty sure mine is just as good as yours.

Those covers are easy to swap out.. the shift pattern looks like a flaw on there..

Rather than draw attention to it, making disappear looks better.

A lot of folks loose it in detailing, by making stuff stand out, that could look better blended in..
