1975 cb750 purchase
« on: February 12, 2011, 04:26:33 PM »
So this guy is selling a 75' cb750 and hes asking 1600 bucks. The bike has appx. 40k+
miles on it. apparently one of the exhaust pipes is cold to the touch when the bike is running. Could this be a simple spark plug replacement or would I be getting myself into a world of problems with this purchase?

Yes and yes.  I've got an SL-100 that started as a simple tune up and ended up as a case replacement because the oil drain plug was JB welded in to fix a cracked case. I have an XL350  that I need to tear down to replace a mainshaft oil seal, but I have an CB1100F that I paid little for and has been perfect.  Like the man says, "You pays your money and takes your chances"

That could be a spark plug, coil or spark plug wire, a blocked carb, or a something worse.

What's the bike look like otherwise?

Could just need simple cleaning of the carbs.  The plug could be getting fouled and not firing.

Doubt it's just a plug but most likely not a major fix.
You should use that and 40K milage to talk him down on price.
Got pics?

Pull the plug and see if it has compression.

$1600 seems high-he had that bike plus another bike bundled together for $2000.
