I broke my bike, I think I need help
« on: February 13, 2011, 02:05:58 PM »
So beautiful day out here today figured I would pull the old girl out and start her up, heck maybe even ride her around the block.

Well someone had been fing around with my bike, I figure it was the dude who broke in and stole my bicycle a few months back and I had never noticed it.

Start her up, and she fires right up no problemo, but of course the carbs need to be cleaned, she is getting no power.

Crack the carbs open and sure enough its ALL gunked up, GREAT.

Do some cleaning and shes looking pretty darn good, button it all back up tank back on and go to fire her up, and she will not start, put on the choke fires right up.

As soon as I turn the choke off, it IMMEDIATELY dies, no hesitation just instantly dead.

Any ideas?

Check your tank and thoroughly clean your carbs again, all orifices with compressed air and carb cleaner.

probably a f'ing HD rider who got jealous when he saw your bike ;D  sounds like plugged jets to me...clean with compressed air and carb cleaner...then some seafoam in the tank should help.

You're gonna have to get more detailed. CV carbs? Which bodies? What bike?
I had a guy break into my garage and rust my gas tank up once. I've been trying to track him down, but it's been a lot like OJ's search for the 'real killer'.

I'll keep you posted.

Except for the burglar, I had the same problem.  My 550 was acting the same way.  I ordered new idle jets #42 from Sirius and $27 later, it fired up no problem. Check to make sure your carbs are CLEAN, replace jets, no problem.

that would be my vote especially if it ran fine last fall. Also it sounds like a vacuum leak take a look at your intake gaskets. Maybe the thief stole those.  :o
