indeed, my K6 performs perfect. there is only a tiny "oil issue" at the zylhead gasket on the left hand side.
yes, the torque graph couldnt have been any better.

a few years later, honda wanted us to believe we can buy their winning endurance racer as a street legal bike. in europe is was called CB1100R, was available as RB with a half fairing and called RD with full fairing.
after having a lot of trouble with plugged idle jets and orifices (the carbs are a pain to service), now the engine runs great, the bike performs like a sporty truck :)
the ventilated rotors are disappointing as is the semi hydraulic anti dive system. all in all no race bike at all, eventually you can call it a sporty tourer.

i hope there is an interest in other brands too.

here is a graph of a friends race bike. its in an early build stage an needs some fine tuning. engine is an aircolled V2 with 2 valves and comes  from a hypermotard 1100. frame is 1098, wheels BST carbon. weight is 141kg with 3litres gas.

It's very, very lean. (And still makes 100 lb/ft of torque!)
Take care,

Ok Mec...now that we have seen what the yellow one with blue wheels makes how about a chart of the big bike. ;) ;D And yes....the carbs on the V4's are a tremendous pain in the A$$. I will never touch another set.
I just dynoed my 2000 RC-51....124.4HP 71lbs torque. Only has slip ons and a Power Commander USB. I also disabled the soft limiter.

here in europe we call the RC-51 VTL1000, if i remember right.
can remember the epic slides colin edwards showed in the superbike battle, amazing bike.

before we come to bigger bikes, here is another one, my girlfriends bike, a great joy to ride because of its leightweight and it has a relatively low riding position too.
the engine is a 650ccm V twin with 3 valve head (i hope this is correct).
engine stock, K&N air filter.
here in europe its called Honda Hawk.

nice, tell your friend he could run the Duc in the italian supetwins series. quite competitive racing and interesting technically speaking. http://www.supertwins.it/

Mike, the 1100 is an I-4, not a V4.... :)

They had a dedicated stock series for them in england back at the time. Ron Haslam could do fun stuff with them, as heavy as they were ::)

Thanks TG......we never got that exact bike but the reason I said that is it looks very much like the VF1000R. ;)    http://honda.vf1000.com/    Bad memories I guess.  ;D
Those carbs on the 1100F (USA model) aren't to bad.....especially compared with any of the V4's.

Also called the Hawk in the USA Mec. Fun bikes. I knew a fella that raced one....Two Brothers used to make a lot of high performance parts for it. His had Crower titanium rods, cams, pistons etc etc. It was a nice middleweight bike. ;)

@ TG: thx TG. i will send my friend your supertwins-link. but i doubt that he will compete in one more racing serie cause he is too busy with his duc-mv shop.

@ MRieck: two of my friends do have a more powerfull hawk, maybe there comes the chance to put it on the dyno.

in the meantime i dynoed my egli-stroker (see my stroker building thread).
engine is a ~1060ccm with some goodies.
it seemed that the engine didnt have its best day. eventually in winter i will do more investigations on that. engine runs fine, especially on the racetrack without complaints. but the graph shows some irregularities (maybe a problem with the rear wheel, chain, sproket?) and the headers vary in their colors way too much. perhaps a compression test could give an answer.

In the UK, the little V twins came in 400 and 650 versions. They were called the Honda Bros.
The smaller was code named the NT400 and NT650 for the larger bike.
The RC51 1000cc V twin Superbike was called the SP1.

good morning, good evening world,

there was a bike similar to the honda hawk, it was called Honda Revere. unlike the hawk it had a steel frame and was shaft driven.
the hawk was more for the sporty guys.

yesterday there was a special bike on my dyno: Indian Scout 750ccm, from 1930.
riding the scout has something special, on the one hand the exclusivety of such an old bike, on the other hand all the comfort of a modern bike missing.
but what bothers me most is that there is so much hesitating when accelerating from idle. the first two seconds the engine doesnt come up to adequate rpms (but afterwards it runs fine). the problem is only in the first millimeters of pulling the throttle. idle is not so bad, however.
leaning the idle jet screw helps, but cannot solve the problem. in all other rpm ranges (except very low rpms) it runs fine.
i do not know if thats a common problem with the old fashioned schebler carbs, or if there is something wrong with my carb. the fact that the inlet manifold (the "T" between carb and the 2 cylinderheads) is not completely gastight (where the "T" is connected to the head) does not help either.

otherwise the performance graph not so bad at all (14.6hp at 3800, 36.7Nm).

sam, like mec says, the ally framed Super Hawk is a different bike from the 650 sahftie V-Twins.

But what's the story fo your Hawk mec? Never knew they were sold in Europe. For sure never saw one in italy....

hey TG,

here in austria we had and have a lot of hawks. i do not know, whether they came from japan the short way or had been reimportet from canada or elsewhere. for sure is, that the bike does have a miles speedometer (with small numbers in kilometers).
every year my friends are doing a "hawk trip" in the dolomites.

back to dyno graphs:
my enduranceracer with its incredible power of 120hp, ~1100ccm, 98 octane gas.

what a mosnter indeed! 100hp X liter from a pushrod twin? puts the sohc4 to shame a bit....no?
The Italian Team Taurus guzzi who took third in Spa dosent make 120.... maybe 110, i think Motobel were getting something like yours.
will ask for your advice if i decide to tune my Le-Mans III, even if i know Guiseppe Ghezzi pretty well :)

and if any of those hawks comes up for sale, just let me know ;)

@ TG:
in fact, one of my friends is selling one of his Hawks. when i have more infos, i will let you know.

@ fang: thx for your positive feedback. fortunately the scout belongs to me. i bought it end of 2004 (unbelievable how the time goes by) from a norwegian restorer. 2005 i tried to solve some leaking problems, but wasnt completely successfull. in the meantime i made over 3000 miles without major problems. one time the indian was unwilling bringing me back home: the main jet needle broke and pluggled the corresponding orifice in the carb. some epoxy saved the day and at home i was able to solder the broken parts.

one will ask, why i do have so many dyno graphs to show. my friend peter, the one who is responsible for the incredible power of the guzzi engine retired and sold all the goodies from his bike shop (Bridgeport mill, voest lathe). i bought his dyno and now i am wasting all my time to improve the performance of the bikes near my hometown :)

back to modern bikes:
everybody knows the new ducati multistrada (winning the Pikes Peak this year). its a multipurpose bike, a tourer with the power of a modern superbike. 1198ccm, 2 zylinder 90°V engine, 4 valves per head, fuel injected. ducati claims 150hp.
the bike does have 4 riding modes: enduro, sport, urban, touring, every mode with its own settings, you can choose between 100hp or 150hp, different suspension settings (spring preload, in and out dampening a.s.o.). a horror thinking of a failure or an electronic issue, but have to say that i did 5000km without any problems so far.
its good to hold the engine above 4000rpm, otherwise there is a chance to loose all your amalgam fillings (this bad behavior is the result of the emission restrictions our politicians made).

Im no expert on this stuff, but that is an impressive amount of hp out of a 2 valve 500cc bike. What is the actual displacement now?
Thanks!

actual displacement  57mm bore = 516,21411cc

why 57 bore  ????    dese pistons are not available in 56,25 or 56,5

for a 56mm bore you need new liners  for correct clearance

I think that you biggest achievement is in getting the engine to still breath well at 11K when most motors i've seen "choke" before 10K.  That motor is running 29mm inlet valves right?

My teammates GS 1150, GSX-R carbs with Dynojet kit, V&H sidewinder, cams that are very close to stock Katana (1982) cams, running very rich, first time on a dyno.
