That same GS 1150 is returning to the dyno tomorrow, new ignition and some minor modifications to the engine.

I think I'll have the 1327 dynoed again, I've done something right judging by the sound and terminal speeds... Maybe it has 174rwhp now?

Anyway, to the dyno with the 1150 in an hour, hoping to see at least a little improvement.

Rev limiter set too low and problems with the carbs, solution on it's way and we will continue Monday, still +8hp and 6nm at the rearwheel.

Engine is basicly stock with '82 Katana cams and they are milder than 1150 cams.
Sidewinder exhaust, GSX-R 1100 carbs and Dyna 2000 ignition.

I had some material removed from the top of the cylinder block and used a thinner base gasket to get the squish right, replaced the valve springs but that's it.

Hey dyno experts, are any of you using a Dynojet 200i, and if so, can you give me any feedback? One is available for sale/trade near me, and I'm meeting the seller tomorrow to discuss a possible trade for an un-finished Cobra kit car. His asking price is $12K OBO, and I have at least that much into the car, not counting labor. He says the dyno cost $18K 2 years ago, but there is no pricing info on their website.

Let me give my buddy a call tomorrow. A lot of the price has to do with the hours on the unit....see if you can fine that out as it can be monitored.

Mike, he estimated less than 400 hours, but that was a wild-ass guess. He doesn't know how to check the time. I'm going to his shop on Monday to see it in action while he runs a Harley on it, so if anyone knows how to check it, let me know. It does have the A/F monitor option, but no load brake. It also comes with software for tuning EFI Harleys, and some sort of exhaust system to vent the fumes.

Looks like a nice bit of gear to have around when sorting the carbs out.
Pity your so far away otherwise I would put my hand up for your expertise.
I checked out their web site, certainly seems to be an up to date unit, I'm not around dyno's much these days but I suspect the big Busa boys would be the guys to front up for a chip change or play. Is it capable of servicing that type of client base ?
400 hours, thats about a dyno every two working days............if things are like when I was a boy it would then get 10 dyno's on the weekend with ya mates

Thanks Johno! This deal sort of just fell into my lap. The fellow I'm dealing with seems to be a good guy, and even if we can't work out a trade, I think he will be more than willing to let me have a go with the Seeley on the dyno.

The deal FINALLY went down today! There was a break in the weather long enough to get the dyno on the trailer, but it did start raining again about 2 miles from my shop. Hopefully no damage was done by the moisture.

The drum is the heart of an inertial dyno. This one weighs over 800 pounds, and has a sensor that counts each revolution. The computer measures the acceleration of this mass to calculate horsepower.

one recent graph from Peter Horvaths Big Bang Guzzi (2V, carburetor aspirated, 100 octane fuel).

and another graph with nearly 160 rwHP and 141NM.
this bike is a 1973-1978 Kawa 900/1000 with 1200ccm and some minor engine improvements

dito on 100 octane fuel, carbs, ready for classic racing.

Nice #....it must have Chevy valves in it.

What are you using for carbs on both the bikes??

Guzzi does have 40mm dellortos (not 100% sure, will ask and correct if wrong). for the next races a slightly less radical camshaft will be incorporated -> 2hp loss but useable torque from 4000rpm.
i have done a radical weld Job on the Guzzi heads, Peter did the final porting. at the first glance really rough and ugly ports, but the result tells another story.

kawa does have 37mm CRs.

1982 FT500 Ascot, Muzzy muffler on stock header, large K&N air filter adapted to stock rubber "stack".

Pilot jet increased from 52 to 58, main increased from 140 to 185. I got the bike registered and insured today, and had a chance to take it out on the open road a bit. Man, I had forgotten what a nice riding bike this was; certainly a lot more pleasant than my old BSA 441 Victor!

Next up is the Seeley....

very nice result form the guzzi. how many CCs is it? I am pretty sure that even the guzzis of Motobel and Taurus Team are not doing 123hp.... more like 115, but they are endurance motors, so a bit less stressed.

interesting work on the head, just what i did to my 90hp Gpz810, good squish is really important.
What pistons are fitted in that guzzi? regular high compression will not work so well with that kind of flat & large squish areas. can you post some pics?

Will ask for more data when i start working on my le mans III.... one day...
