rethinking my race build cb550
« on: September 25, 2011, 04:02:52 PM »
I've been looking at my growing parts list for my 550  and looking at my riding ability and I don't think I'll be able to ride up to the bikes potential yet.
I do well enogh on the streets to make the squids turn pale but that's not the track. I'm pretty sure every racer here could out ride me on the track.
Bearing that in mind I'm rethinking my approach
So I'm thinking of just slapping a 650 cam in the 550.
Get some mid range shocks to replace the stockers out back, emulators up front.
Velocity stacks and rejet carbs.
Solo seat
safety wire
clubmans
Some sprtbike rearsets from ebay
Go Race

This might be a more realistic(and cheaper) approach for my abilities
Suggestions and comments welcome

I think this is a pretty sensible approach if you have no track experience. I couldn't count the newbie guys on 100+hp bikes that I pass on my little 25hp CB350. Learn to race what you have, and work your way up later with more power. Spend the money on riding/racing schools, better suspension, and sticky tires.

IMHO,

Tim I'm way jealous of your bike list. You have 2 of the bikes that I've always lusted after, VF500 interceptor and fzr400......sigh.

I forgot to put cheap leathers on my list.
If anyone has cheap or free ;) spares for a low end vintage racer let me know. I'm not too proud to refuse hand me downs LOL
