New Michigan SOHC Member (and the new guy's toy picts)
« on: February 15, 2011, 12:17:35 AM »
Well I've been lurking enough, I thought I might as well start a post, so here goes.

I'm 26, went to MSU for engineering, and live in Vermontville, MI (big biker town in the Summer).  I bought a K3 a few months ago and am well into stripping it down for an overhaul.  I've been wrenching since a kid and have worked a few bikes, but nothing as in depth as this.  So anyway, here's some toys:

2020 stroker, 16" in the rear, 12" in the front

Bought a garage sale for 20 bucks, fixed it up and threw on four 120db airhorns  ;D

K3 - Been sitting 21 years, got it for a good price though

Gonna need alotta help!

Welcome,  what are your plans for the 750?  It would be cool to clean it up and leave it the way it is-as a retro cruiser...Larry

I was thinking of keeping it mostly stock, going with a flat paint job, and dropping down the handle bars.   Something like this anyway:

Welcome to the forum.  Nice find!  If you decide to dump the Vetter fairing let me know, my son might be interested in it for his KZ400.

Welcome to the site from another Michigan member.  Buggy looks real fun.   By the looks of your shop, that 750 project should give you few problems :)

Oh I try and make it up to Silver Lake maybe 5 times a year...and turns out I have to fix something about....5 times a year...lol

So while I got you guys...I've gotta question:  My VIN tag says the bike was made late '73, but the title says it's a '74---does that make any sense?

pretty universal occurence in old Jap bike land imo.  Check the right side of the headstock, the vin tag(although Canadian bikes or some other may not have one)will have the build date.  It's often the case that a significant period of time will pass between the build date and when it was titled.  Also the engine number and frame number will not match although they will be from the same series(ie. k1, k2, k3 etc.), if the engine hasn't been swapped at some time in the past.  Frame and engine number break down can be found here;

The last time I was at Silver Lake I had to have my Ford 4x4 towed home!

Well... thats the way it was done: Sell date = Title date
I think they got into some trouble for doing it that way. FWIW my K1 is a Nov 70 build, but is titled as a 71.

Checked the serial numbers tonight:

Frame - 2328731
Engine - 2332956

From the serial number doc on the front page on K4

Frame - 2300001
Engine - 2300001

VIN tag says made 11/73 -- Odd?
