AR-OK hand-off
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:48:13 PM »
Hey guys and girls, this thread is for the riders from team SE and team SW that will be bridging the 2 regions. I'm thinking it will be easier for both teams to have the info in one place, rather than split between the 2 team threads.

Coke, if you guys get into OKC any time on 4-18, the relay can proceed to DFW the next day. Time for you guys in OK to chime in....

Yeah, I don't think I've heard anyone from OKC say anything on here yet. I've only gone there for concerts or Thunder games (don't laugh Durrant is good and AR has no pro sports). I think we should meet somewhere downtown. There's a brewhouse somewhere downtown that has good food and beer. ;D I don't remember what it's called, but I'd probably remember if someone said it. It's not far from the Ford Center. So, how bout it OKC peeps?

I am sure we can get IT to you on the 18th.  If there are no OK guys/gals at all, I would try to make it to Dennison and drop it off to a TX rider.  I think if that is the case then I would want to go to McAlester and go south on 69 (just cause I love that road number) even though it sort of is an interstate quality road most of the way.

Thanks! We do have riders in OK; if they don't chime in here soon, I will be forced to hunt them down and shoot them (a PM) ;)

Please don't shoot me. I guess I'm your only possibility here in Oklahoma City but I just can't guarantee that all of the pieces I have stored in ziploc bags, boxes, and tupperware containers will be transformed into a serviceable motorbike by the 18th. Keep pinging me with PMs and I'll keep working on my bike but please have an alternative plan. Also, as I've stated before, I can provide a place to stay, a meal, a few beers, and more bull#$%* stories than you can tolerate so please let me know if you need any assistance. Also, I would love to ride along (on a non SOHC4) with whoever passes through this way for as far as my time permits. I can probably figure out a fun route to the next destination as well. Anyway, I'll try like hell to have my bike ready.

Sounds good. I don't want to say this too loud, but my bike is running great right now. I hope it stays up to par for the trip. I may take you up on the place to stay. I'm not sure if the wife is going to make the trip? She's going to be defending her PHD (organic chemistry) in September and has a lot of work to do before then. Don't tell her, but I'd rather ride alone anyway. ;D I wish she would just let me get her a bike for herself. I'm really looking forward to this! Can't wait to meet others who share my love for old Hondas! I hope you get yours together! If not, I'm sure a non sohc will be ok.

If we can't make the OKC hand off, I believe the alternate would be the trip to Durant OK or Dennison TX for a hand off

I think that Coke was saying something about coming into OK on OK9. South side of OKC. Would it be better to meet him in Tulsa?

I think it would be best to post the info here, rather than PM.

If you are coming down from Tulsa Taxiscooter it would be a snap to just meet up somewhere on 40 .. I live right off 40 myself in VB.  Unless Radam has another option I think he was staying at my place.. you could too.  just have to put up with the MIL so no party at the house ... could sit on the deck and drink a few but not loud etc.. she is nearly 87 and we take care of her.

still not sure if there is anyone in OKC to pick IT up though

Taxiscooter.. are you planning to take it from OKC to TX too?  I am still not sure who is picking IT up in OKC .. we have one but his bike is not together.   I am thinking if someone doesn't pipe up soon from OKC we need to get the TX bunch to meet you, Radam and me at the TX welcome center north of Dennison on 75.

Yeah, what really is going on from Ar on?

Radam, I have no idea.. and all the info they send us just isn't helpful.  I really am worried about the OKC thing and we only have 20 days left..

are you up for the Durrant connection instead?  I know we are not organizers but there is just a real lapse here.. and it needs to be cleared up soon.. I know those TX guys could come up to the TX welcome center as well as they could a bit further west..  If there was anyone in OKC that was for sure going to ride i would feel better.
what the heck are we going to do when we get there and no one is there to meet us?  I am not all that keen on riding over to OKC just to ride south cause no one was there.  we could do the whole south thing in OK just by going down 69/75  .. it would still be in OK and would save us some miles not having to go to OKC.  They seem to have more riders than they know what to do with in TX but we are slim pickings in AR and OK.  I don't think we should be forces to ride to OKC just so IT can be at the state capitol or something and then put in the mail.  I guess I am to obsessive/compulsive but I am just a bit worried about this hand off.

If no one is going to be in OKC I don't see the point in going there. If we were just going to hit OK on the way to TX then we could stay at my parents house in Sims (it's hard to find on the map), near Mt. Ida, then head out towards Mena and into OK. Hell, I don't even know what I'm talking about? Someone just tell me where to ride.

I think it would be longer to OKC if we didn't go interstate anyway.. so that jaunt to Denison would take less time.. TaxiScooter could still be involved too.. it would take him about 2 hours to get from Tulsa to Van Buren and he could meet us there Sunday night.. stay at my house and then we could head out in the morning and be to Denison by noon or something..
