I just purchased a honda cb400 1979 two weeks ago..
bike had a hard time starting.. after messing with it for a little while, I got it started.

Today being the warmest day of the year, i decided to take it out and ride it around the blocks a few times. Never rode a bike until today, IT WAS SUCH AN AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!!

However, I'm looking into getting some cafe bars, but I dont know where to purchase them(not familiar with the make, etc.). What bars should I be looking at when being a noob... I'd Also love to make it into a single seat without a tail. If anyone could hint me on a few links, experiences, or even diy's I'd def. appreciate it!!!

Clubman bars are pretty cheap. http://omarsdtr.com/bars2.html You can probably find them other places for less. Maybe check ebay.

Search is your friend.  I know it is a stock answer but most of the info you want is in these pages and in the project logs.  Take a look around and get a copy of the manual for your bike.  Also, get the bike running solid before worrying about how it looks.  You can polish and clean for now, but the mechanical stuff should be your first concern.  Post some pics and good luck with it.

What makes you think it's a twin? I know they killed off the 400/4 about then.

I've been asked to move this thread to "Other Bikes" but at the moment it's inconclusive...

1977 was last year of 400f, I thought?

Yep.  '77 was the last year for the 4.  By '78 and on, it was a twin.  Grew to a 450 in 82, then the whole twin line died out (was put down...) after another year or two.  I think the Rebel 450 of 86/87 was the last iteration of that motor.
