Actually the only ass I kicked is my own, but it seemed to work.  ;D My little race bike is pretty well sorted and is a blast to ride. I managed a couple 2nd place spots, but the most fun was I led a good portion of both races.

Most fun you can have with your leathers on. ;)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the support.

TG mentioned the gearbox and just a little news on that. I have found that until the engine is fully up to temp it will sometimes pop into a false neutral after a downshift 4th to 3rd. Of course this is always immediately evident when there is a sudden loss of engine braking (whether or not one uses compression braking, which isn't the point) Further, twice it actually slipped into the next lower gear (after finding neutral) which becomes really exciting entering a corner......

Two things are evident. I probably try to shift too quickly but need to be more methodical and positive on the lever. Secondly, as mentioned once hot the thing is flawless and shifts precisely so ample warmup time is essential. I really like the tighter ratios compared to a stock box though.

I will check it over this winter, maybe stiffer detent springs and a different check on the drum "timing".

Bill yes it's a 550 head & stock valves although I was asked the same 650 head question last weekend.

I'm sure bw will correct me if I'm wrong Bill.   My understanding is using a 650 head would move the bike up into the next class (VRRA's P3).  GPZ550's would be the main competition then.

Hey Brent,

TinTop was nice enough to show me the way to the build thread here since I posted some pics of your bike on the inspiration thread.

I went to my first VRRA event as a spectator to the North Bay track.

First of all when I first saw your bike, not knowing about the internals, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. What a piece of art! I can't wait until I get my road worthy cb550 going and get crackin on my 550 race bike. I was talking to Ken Foley which I believe races with you and commented how damn fast your bike was.

You've done a masterful job, and thanks for posting this thread.
I thought I'd put up a pic I snapped. Wish I would've brought the better camera but here it is anyhow.

Brent is already beating up on those pesky GPZ550s! I think he'll be finishing 2nd or 3rd overall in that class. Congrats to you sir!

So Mr. Modest hasn't posted his season ending result(s), so I'll help him out, along with a big congrats. ;) :)

The final standings have bw finishing 2nd in P2, and with only 3 of 4 races counted another 2nd in P3.  Guess those GPZ's know who to look out for next season.  Well done Brent. 8)

I don't think any rust had time to settle Mike. ;D ;D ;D
I had the pleasure of meeting Brent and Debbie a few years back.  Just talking to them and looking at their bikes was enough to convince me that whatever they put their minds to would be a success.
The new race bike is testament to Brents skill as a builder and the results and the speed that they came at are testament to Brents riding ability despite a good lay off.
Good luck Waller's and wishing you both a super season next year. 8) 8) 8) 8)

Brent is even in the current issue of http://www.insidemotorcycles.com/(Page 50    NEVER TOO LATE

You can find it here: http://www.insidemotorcycles.com/images/Features/1406/Page%2044-45%20-%20Win%20On%20Sunday%20Sell%20On%20Monday.pdf

Guess brent is blushing with all this attention,

it is really impressive for a first season out, we all know how hard is to bring a new race bike into the sweet spot, keep it in one piece and of course ride the wheels off the thing

so sorry B, but you deserve this!

:)
