I'm sure glad it turned out that no-one crashed because of my oil. From my weak detective work I figure only half a litre would have misted off into the atmosphere and some of that would have burnt off the header. The rest was in the bellypan, soaked into the foam airfilters, leathers, boot and pooled up in every nook & cranny imaginable.

Thanks TG, I am a lucky pup.  :)

You sure scared the crap out of me Brent, and everyone else who were keeping an eye on you at the first sign of smoke. And when you came out of your seat and saved it...WOW! Now there's skill, and a bit of luck. ;) Can you imagine the mess, and the carnage, if there were no belly-pan rule? And still, there are many complaining about this. That was the second oil leak that a belly-pan saved the day that weekend that I witnessed. The first being our friend Dave, on YES, a Yamaha! :) As for points, I'd rather see you get some(even on a measly Yammahammer) and win at the end of the year....My trophy wall is getting full anyhow. ;)

Here's the cause of my problem which brought my weekend to a screeching halt (almost literally) in the first final Sunday.
Talking to Rob (Voxonda) I think there is a solution to bleed off some of the oil volume at the filter adaptor which should reduce the pressure in the cooler. I don't need this kind of excitement again. ;D

I can't understand how bleeding volume at the adapter would reduce the pressure in the cooler? I would try a different design cooler, such as the styles Jim F posted on his turbo thread, and run 100% of the oil through the cooler.

Agreed scotty.  Using 'U' (vertical or horizontal) mount(s) so the cooler could 'float', would relieve mounting & vibration stresses.  The XS is a known 'cooler killer' because of vibration, and everyone (in sidecars) using it, employs some form of isolation mounting.  Also adding a thermostat would relieve cold start-up high oil pressure.  Added benefit of also keeping the oil in it's optimum operating range.

Can't remember what oil your using bw, and I don't want to start an 'oil thread' ;D, just a personal observation.  I'm using a full syn (Royal Purple Motorcyle) for two reasons, cold start viscosity & pressure, & loss of viscosity prevention, at high temperatures.

Mosport this weekend and the bike's in the trailer. Not before a marathon session last night . Various issues delayed getting the bike back together until the last minute...typical. I would have preferred a cooler 1" narrower because of limited space, but this thinner curved model will work.

Any old Honda mecahanics recognize this rubber spool/nubbin? I can't remember what model it's from but I'm thinking early seventies single maybe??

Looks familiar, but I can't quite place it. Maybe from the eye of a CL steering damper?

Another thought about the rubber spool: maybe from isolated handle-bar mounts?
Good luck guys, and be safe. 8)

Keep the shiney side up you guys............and I agree with the handlebar spacer for the rubber 'bobbin'  350s & 450s.....the CL models all use 2-piece rubber bushings.

We had a great weekend of racing at Mosport, lap times aren't known yet as the offical score keeper left on vacation after his last race! I was happy to win both heat races Saturday so was starting both finals on the pole.

I choose tall gearing for the long uphill Mosport back straight so rarely get off the line well, but took over the lead in T4 of the first final and won that P3 light race. I figure I hit 135mph at the end of the straight and it's uphill all the way.

In the P2 middleweight race I managed a second place behind a very well prepared RD400 ridden by a great young guy from Wisconsin. This RD makes the same power as my 550 but is 80lbs lighter so squirts off the corners better. We're dead even on the straight until the very end of it where he gains a bit of an advantage.

In this class there are ten 750's that line up ahead of the middleweights but start together. At the start I blew 2nd gear (twice  >:( and two mids get by, the guy in white leathers on the RD, Scott on another CB550. The camera lens gets covered in two-stroke oil so at the end looks like we're racing in a brush fire and isn't very clear.  ::)

Here's a link to the vid, it should read Aug. 19 instead of 18th. Sorry the sound is crap.

I left the sighting lap there to show the track & scenery! There are constant elevation changes.
Some 750 action forward & back but at the end of the race there is one CB750, a big Trident, a Norton and the RD400 ahead of me.

8:32, I pass into 1st place.

9:14, the CB750 passes (he had to start from pit row and I think he just hung out with us all for his pleasure, he's much faster than everyone out there)

I was slowed into the hairpin and lost my drive, then blew another shift @ 11:18 and the RD blew past for good.

9:32, first lapped rider.

15:33 last lap flag.

Holy hell that RD is fast! :)

Great to see how the fast and smooth guys get around there...must revisit the video before next year's race.

Congrats on your results Brent!

Brent, great racing! Thanks for sharing the on board footage. That RD's weight advantage really showed! Congrats on the good  finishes and good luck prepping and racing at the season closer.
David
P.S. I sure hope you didn't have as much trouble seeing as the camera had towards the end, the two-stroke oil sure clouded the camera optics!

good video, great result!

just thought that you are not really hugging the apexes some of the time, you might have some tenths to save in there or do you?...who knows, maybe a bit wide is the fast way around there

so is the 6spd box start playing tricks now? im still impressed by how well it works so far!

No, this place is no different than anywhere else and especially with the concrete strips the tight inside line is the fast way around. You will never hear from these lips that I'm the fastest guy out there.  :D I do find however the bike turns better on the throttle so if I get in too hot I'll drift off the line and on occasion I'll power outside hoping to get around someone, which obviously doesn't always work.  ::) I like the T8-9-10 combination but when I drift wide in 9 it's an "old back issue" certainly not planned! In the P3 race I ran alone and felt I nailed better lap times, I look forward to getting the MyLaps info.

I'm very happy with the gearbox. It works best when the engine is up to temperature, for whatever reason. A couple times last weekend it slipped out of 4th into a false neutral entering into both fast sweepers. At 90mph with your knee on the asphalt it gets your attention.  ;) A quick click up easily returns it to 4th, and I can't find what the cause is. I need to be a bit more methodical shifting this compared to a stocker and likely why I missed  grabbing 2nd off the line. One thing I will do in the offseason is to switch to the CB550 center fork which rides on the shift drum. It is much wider than the CB360 piece so will need to be relieved some to fit but might be what is needed.
