It's a uscra event tg. By the way the two riders thatfinished ahead were very fast guys, I couldn't hangwith them. An rd400 and a CB350 twin, both well developed mike saw the twin. Bill tg takes credit for the ignition idea. I'll fill you in when I'm home.

I will say this...Brent's wife Deb said (while I was at lunch) an older gal (about 70 they said) saw my Hayabusa and was star struck with that! She didn't care about Brent's bike....she liked the Busa! Good taste! Damn...80 mph t 4,800RPM in 6th.....it red-lines at 11,000. I was downshifting on the way home and getting 140MPH. Easy. ;) ;D What a bike.

That's nothing Murphy, mine nearly did that in second gear, thanks to you it stayed in one piece. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

wasnt aware of this  uscra thing... east coast answer to wera? :)

having seen how fast yamaha 350 two strokes twins can go, am not surprised, but a CB350 four stroke twin beating it ? must be some rider....

Did that 350 twin have #600 on it? If so, he's THE guy to beat down there. He races a sidecar too.

The 350 bikes were very, very nice. The fella with them knew me and my porting but I hadn't met him before. Real funny thing is he was talking too my friend that does the CNC machining for my cylinders. Small world. Brent met both of them. The 350's were very nice, custom frames with brazed joints etc, etc. Real nice work.

Internet down so blackberry/big fingers! I'll fill in the blanks later. Realized the last race was with the club's "who's who" absolutely awesome race after an all day wait in the heat. 18 riders in two classes, ducati TT2, 2xfz600's, but it was that crazy fast rd400 that won. I finished 6th overall, 3rd in class when I nipped one of the Fz's at the finish line!    However the two fastest times belonged to CB350 twins, man I can't believe hoe fast theyare.  Tim the guy you mention was 5th fastest, .06 seconds ahead of me, but two seconds off the pace.

Back up. That last race was crazy fast, late in the day and hot, humidity building, when lap times usually suffer, but it didn't show.  I'm not in the league with some of these guys, but felt it was best effort to eek out a third against this bunch. Truth be known about that 86 FZ600 I beat at the line....I saw he had backed out of the fight some & I was reeling him slowly. The last lap was my fastest when I thought I might have a chance to catch him. He had to be pissed!

This USCRA organization races this track four times a year so the boys know their way around. :o It's a small group compared to AHMRA and it seems there has been a history of cross border competition between this group & the VRRA.

There were four 350twins that had equal top end to mine but easily out gunned me round the place. I'm still picking up my jaw. Both the TT2 and RD400 riders were in a class of their own too, sheeesh

Sorry no pictures, I know, I know.  All in all great weather, the bike ran well and I had a blast. A win & two 3rd's, I'm happy.

Some new pics.

Last weekend was the VRRA season opener. If you checked out TinTops sidecar thread you'll know the weather was hit & miss, but there were lots of bikes registered to race. I was to race in the endurance Friday afternoon but it was eventually cancelled. Good thing, conditions were lousy, I got fifteen minutes of practise in and the back wheel broke loose too many times to be comfortable.

Cut to Sunday and I forced myself to make the second practise session in the rain, to keep the bike hot and get a feel for the Avons in the wet. My bump up class followed with puddles everywhere but a light rain diminishing. I finished 2nd as one of the front runners crashed at the half-way point.

Later the weather was great, dry track and temps were rising. In my regular class, P2 Middleweight and Heavyweight race together and I think there were twenty riders on the grid. I got a great start and three of us (a 750 and another CB550) got to the front. It was a great battle for several laps but I knew I could run faster, it's a tight track and tough to pass.

Eventually I got clear and won by eight seconds.....plus set a new lap record for the class.  ;D

Here we are waiting for everyone to show on pit road.

It was this close for a quite a while. I'm in the back there somewhere.

In class CB550's were 1-2-3.

Thanks guys. That P2 race "unfolded" very smoothly with not many dumb mistakes. However in checking lap times online I see the experienced guys are much more consistant lap after lap. Something I need to work on, probably it just takes me longer to learn new tracks.  The bike ran so well and temps were ideal, five new lap records so a sure sign engines were happy!

It sure is fun racing in tight quarters with guys you can trust though, very rewarding.  8)

TG, no pics in that other class, but still plenty of GPz machines.

P2 middleweight production is my actual class, up to 1976 (1978 for CB550 because the bike was unchanged) I can "bump up" into P3 to get extra races. I enter P3 Light where all the GPz550's bikes race. The P3 cut-off date is 1982 again with exceptions for models that went beyond the date without upgrades.

OK, slightly confused but i see... so second place against the gpz with puddles ? would they spank you on the dry?  ::)

really just wondering how much difference there might be between 600 kitted cb550 and gpz550....

just tempted by one i have in the garage. as a starting point the Gee-Pees look so much better, light, good ports, dohc, 6 speeds, must all be down to the rider then :)

TG, here's what I know.

1) Some of the GPz's are bone stock with superbike bars & number plates. Inexpensive fun. Some have probably been "breathed on" but remain fairly stock looking.

2) They don't spank me on a dry track.

3) All things equal...that is a "built" GPz550 engine in a lightened chassis compared to the same in a CB550 ought to spell disaster for the CB.  ;)
