First, I know nothing about these ol' bikes other than what I have learned from the great, helpful folks on this Forum.
**Simply put, a "Popwood ground" is a new ground wire spliced into either (only one is used) of the 2 green ground wires that are soldered to the large nuts inside the headlight bucket to a coil mounting bolt (use a ring connector). Clean the area on the frame around the bolt to clean metal.
The beauty of it is that you don't have to search out and clean each and every other orig ground connections (lazy man's solution). And, it works. **You still need to clean both ends of the ground connections on the battery cable and perhaps other on as "as required " basis.
I got into this when, suddenly, I had no headlight and no L F Turn Sig after both were working properly the night before. The "Popwood" corrected the problem immediately.
Further, as most know (and I finally learned) wiring connectors have been accumulating corrosion for 30 or more years of neglect. From what little I have learned, ALL "gang" connectors (plastic housed) and fuse clips need to be cleaned well. Pack the "gang" connectors with dielectric grease to retard future corrosion. Use a .22 cal bore brush to clean the fuse clips - makes 'em bright and clean with no damage (make sure the clips grip the fuses tightly).
**It is best to do these things BEFORE you start having connection failures or blown fuses. Otherwise, it is just a matter of when (not if) you'll have trouble.
In my ignorance, I waited until my 550 was useless before I did these things. Now, she runs like a top. So, I still appreciate the good advice I got from folks here.
