What gauge is the stock battery/starter cable?
« on: February 17, 2011, 04:21:22 PM »
I am having a hell of a time finding cable this size. I thought it was close to 8 ga (I know stock is metric sized) but looking on an AWG wire size chart using the actual wire OD measurement, stock should be a 4 ga. When held side by side to "8 ga" battery cable at the auto parts store the wire portion looks to be the same size but the wire coating is twice the factory diameter.
I really want/need to keep it as close top factory size as possible.

Have you tried a Honda Dealer? Likely so.

I forgot to mention this is for a custom length application, not a factory run.

What are the required amps for this connection? I don't know them off-hand, but you might use that as a guide.

I used 4 gauge on my chop, to do a custom length run and have had no problems.

There's no exact AWG equivalent, Japanese wire gauge/size is measured in square mm. I would probably go with AWG 4, you could get away with AWG 8 since the starter is a short term load and although the wire would get warm if you ran the starter for a long time, the voltage drop over a short length would be minimal. AWG 6 would be great but just try to find it.
