fuel supply/delivery issue 73 750 SOLVED
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:02:43 AM »
Something is odd with my bike: It doesn't run well. I am pretty sure it has to do with the fuel getting to the carbs. When I drained the tank by removing the fuel hoses from the valve, I realized that the fuel ran mostly through one of the little funnels (the more rear one). I took the valve apart and cleaned it all out. I realized that it is probably normal that it runs out stronger through one funnel, because the other one is in line behind it. When the engine runs the pumping of the engine then takes care of that!?
Is this correct? Or should it be the same. If so, what's wrong with mine?

Alternatively it could be the fuel filter that is in the line after the valve. I already changed it, but might have gotten one that has too much resistance.

All ideas are welcome.

Thx as always!

The fuel is gravity fed to the carbs.  The engine pumping only affects your heart as you ride it.

Your issue might be further down the line (in the carbs themselves).  Do check the lines as Bollingball says.

Please provide any additional info you can.  How is it not running well?  Does it backfire?  When running, spray some water on each pipe to see how each one reacts or use one of those thermometer things to check.  If you tap the float bowls with something does it change?  What did you do about the time it started running bad?  Did you go to a different gas station this time?  Have you checked the plugs?  What color are they?
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

What condition is the inside of the tank in?...the petcock screen could be gunked up.

Don't feel badly. It ain't unique.

Years ago I knew a fellow who did everything he could think of to start a Chevie that quit on him. Finally, he completely rebuilt the engine. It still wouldn't run until he got around to putting gas into the tank. (True story and, it WASN'T me!)

Did you try the "reserve" position on the petcock?
