Carb boots WTB?
« on: February 18, 2011, 03:49:58 PM »
Anyone know where I can get NOS or aftermarket carb boots that go from the engine to the carbs? Not from carbs > airbox. It's for a 1978 CB750K. Also the metal bands too.
Cheers!

Have you tried your Honda dealer?  Mine were still available last year for my 500.

Honda still has 1 and 3 in stock 2 and 4 not available. However all is not lost. You need to order Two of each. That is Two #1 and two #3. The two extras will have to be rotated 180 degrees to line up correctly trust me this works I have done it. Shop around for best price. But Honda shop has them ;)

Crap!

If you can find or have an old set that are in decent shape, the Xylene and wintergreen trick works very well to make them soft.  Look up "wintergreen" on this site.

The wintergreen thing is pretty cool. I'll give it a try.

Does anyone know where to get new metal bands that are similar to the stock ones? Mine are pretty messed up.

I was going to get new manifolds and clamps a coupla years ago (still haven't done it yet) and Honda wanted like $80 just for the clamps!!! I think if a guy were to look around....you could find some thin hose clamps that would work the same for a bunch cheaper.

I got my thin clamps from Pelican Parts for less than $20 and I've seen them listed for $40 from some of the popular suppliers.

$1.50 each $12.00 for 8

CycleRanger not the ones I have straight from the Honda shop in Honda packaging just one number on each (1) and (3) I just took the extra #1 put on the fourth cyl. but rotated it 180 now the # is face down but it lines up perfect. Same thing for the extra #3 put it on the second cyl. with the number face down. Do not turn them front to back I have not seen any with dual numbers on them. I did notice the band area on the new ones are wider than the old ones.

I stumbled across these NOS boots, ....in the bag new.

They have all eight, maybe you could split them with someone here. I bet they take a little less than $150, too.  Sounds like he's going to throw them IN a lake.

nice heads up! I'm on the fence at the moment because I don't need the airbox ones and I'm getting my old ones to look pretty good so I'm not sure unless he can come down on price.

In terms of the clamps... I kinda dislike the clamps Honda used.  They seem kinda wimpy.  Maybe they have that reputation because when the boots get hard, you wanna over-tighten these things and they're easily destroyed.  Before I learned of the wintergreen trick, I bought some hose clamps that were narrower than a standard radiator clamp (I forget the exact size) but they were just a tiny bit wider than factory and were capable of making a nice tight seal.  I don't recall the vendor I got them from but recall looking around for a while before I got what I wanted.

huh, I have two old sets that have the dual numbering.   Either way, yes, a pair of ones and pair of threes are all that are needed!

Uh that looks to me like $7.20 for 1 with 10 available....
At least it doesn't state explicitly that you get 10 for $7.20.....
But if it is 10 for $7.20 that is indeed an awesome price.
