Just got a head for my CB550
« on: March 31, 2006, 10:03:53 AM »
I just picked up a head for my 77 CB550 for a song.  I never was able to get my exhaust stud drilled out properly, so my new pipes are sort of munged onto my #3 cylinder.  Not bad, though, it seems to get a seal.

Since I have this head, though, I'm wondering what should I do to it?  There's nothing there but the head, valves, springs, and retainers.  Are there bearings that meet the cam?  I'd imagine those need replacing.  Maybe port it?

Any suggestions, since I'm pulling the lid off?

do a search. there has been threads about this topic.  as far as the cam bearing I believe they are part of the head so there is very little you can do with it.  you can get a new cam springs and possibly valves from mega cams among others  they are in the faqs under  "where to get parts for or sohc."  definitely get a manual if you want to see if the parts are within spec.  I would personally take the head apart and clean and check dimensions.
