Got my sprockets and chain yesterday(among other things). Put the front one on, I don't want to mess with the rear or the chain until I'm ready to put the swing arm back on. Here's a couple of shots including the old one, it was pretty scary. Had to include the gloves and the lube, just for effect.

I pulled the front part of the wire harness loose. I'm going to rehab all of that while I wait on my top end gaskets and electrical connectors. I'm sure Ill need a few more electrical parts by the time its all done. I couldn't get a good shot of the rats nest and the back of the head light, Its plastic and awfully small. I couldn't get any of the connectors in it if I tried. I'll try to get a good pic of it tonight and post it.

I decided to take my cheap kodak digital to the shop instead of using my iphone camera. I finished up the rehab on my wire harness, at least up to the headllight area. I'll redo all of that with the headlight off. I didnt get a pic of the headlight but something is a miss. Its plastic and has a good bit of molding flash on it. I havent looked at a parts blow up yet but I think its the inner liner minus the bucket. I also put my new stock coils on last night. Here are a few pics of some things I worked on and looked at last night.

Yesterday was a good day at Ones and Zeroes. I got my eBay oil pan on and it seems right. The clutch seal seems OK after a hundred or so pulls. I modified my side covers so that my pod filters will show/clear them. I used the metal trim as a jig. I laid down 3 layers of masking tape across the line where I wanted to cut. I placed the metal trim over it and used the taps to snug it down. I taped it in place nice and tight with masking tape, and cut a nice curve with a utility knife. I used a band saw to cut the curve off, then I cut along the edge of the off fall piece and removed the edge where the trim sits. That edge has a reinforcing rib on the back. I cleaned the paint off of that and the back of the side cover. I'm going to glue the ribs onto the back of the side covers. I'm going to zip strip them and paint them Triumph Metallic Aluminum then ad my ones and zeroes graphics.

I pulled back on the Triumph Aluminum Metallic idea. I dont want to buy $33.00 spary cans from color time and enough to fix every mistake. I'm sticking with rustoleum metallic aluminum. $5.97 a can at Home Depot. As long as I get the primer to stick real nice I'm good. Im going to spray 6 light coats in a --- \ / pattern. I'll clear coat that after it cures 3 days. We'll see how many times I have to redo them. One thing is for sure, the way I paint it wont come down to paint quality.

I did have pretty sweet day in the shop yesterday.

I glued one of the ribs in place on my side cover. I was able to super glue the broken rib from the other side back togeher real nice. Loctite makes a real nice super glue with an activator pen. I hand sanded all of the pieces before I assmebled them.

I pressed my shock bushings in with a grade 8 bolt/nut and a series of craftsman sockets. They went in real nice. I was super pleased with that and my swing arm paint job. I didn't scratch the paint at all, a little grease on the butt end of the socket kept everything sliding real nice.

The swing arm went in real nice and it feels great. The bronze bushings from CBX Performance went right in. I was a little concerned because the pivot collar had some discoloration that a scotchbrite wouldnt remove and a shiny spot that looked like it had worn a bit. Everything spec'd out however. It was a little tough to get the collar throught both bushings without hammering on it.

The sprocket was easy enough. Until I realized I had no thread locker. At 8:30pm I had to drive to HD and get a tube of Red Loctite. Can't cut corners on the sprocket nuts. I got the hub cleaned up real nice, inspected the brakes and bearings, and I added a bit of lube to the bearings and axle. With the sprocket bolted on, it was time to mount the wheel to the swing arm. Again I was super pleased with my paint job, I plowed a tiny bit of paint on the inside with the slack adjuster but otherwise it held up great and there was no visible scuff.

Two days worth of working to actually make some money has gotten in the way of my wrenching. I'll be on it here in a bit once the warehouse clears out. I received my electrical connectors and "bolt on" carbs today. When I go down I'll finish as much of the rear wheel, chain and sprocket project as I can and glue the other rib into my other side cover.

Yesterday I replaced the electrical connectors for the CDI igntion units on my wire harness. The new connectors look so fine after seeing the old yellow ones that were damaged by battery acid.

I got a little side tracked for a couple of days, didnt get much posted though I did get alot done. The rear end of the bike is back together, and all of the wire harness rehab under the seat is done. The shocks are on despite the back ordered spring compressor. I used two ratchet straps to compress the springs, it worked great and it was actually fairly safe.

The rear end on my 650 is pretty much done. I have the front facing the work bench, the drag bars on, and I'm part way into rehabbing my hand controls. I ordered the resovoir kit, and the master cylinder rebuild kit. I'm having a tough time getting the bolt out that holds the brake lever on the master cylinder assembly. The nut came off fine but it wont budge otherwise. I worked a ton of rust out of the pivot with liquid wrench and heated it until the residual brake fluid in the resevoir boiled away. All I maneged to do turn it and make a creaking noise. Im going to heat it again today, flip it over and pound it with the 20 oz framing hammer and see where I get. Maybe I should pour some good Cincinnati beer on tha b*&^h.

Finding the Vetter headlight and no place for my electrical connectors was a bummer. I have a 72 CB750 bucket I'm going to use. Im not sure about ears yet but Ill make the thing hang off the front of the bike somehow.

Ive been working on my side covers too. I have one stripped down to bare plastic except for a few tiny spots I need to work out. The plastic sands out real nice once you get to 500 grit. I'm still debating on the paint thing. I know I can get the paint on nice but I doubt it will dry to a nice automotive type finish. I'll be on the road making real money for the next 16 weeks so I should just bite the bullet and get it painted right.

The more I work on this thing the more I want to do, damn....

Be carefull with the hammer. I broke the pivot off a nice CB900 level-reservoir MC trying to to do that.

It has a nut on the back and it the whole thing pivots when the handle moves. I cant get it to budge unless I heat it WAY hotter than it ought to be.
