Tank emblems
« on: March 31, 2006, 12:01:08 PM »
I have just finished relining my tank and since I have it off and empty I thought I might paint it.  How are the emblems attached, how would you take them off and reattach them?

It looks like I could just carefully pry them off, but I have made assumptions before.  Any suggestions?

Post some pics of your tank, that might help  ;D
Most of the emblems are held on with tiny pins, and a gentle pry should
pop them out ...

Use a blunt instrument suck as a lolly stick to save damaging the badge or tank. ;D

Fishing line works well - to get them off the tank/break the seal

I'm told a butter knife is a good tool for removal as well...

Putting a dab of silicone seal on each of the pins will help hold the emblems on when you're done.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

3M makes a killer double-sided tape just for emblems.
You can usually get it at a decent autobody supply store.

They also sell liquid emblem adhevise in tubes..

Use fish line to find the little posts, and then pry as close to the posts as possible.  This will put the least stress on the posts (vertical=good, lateral=bend/break) and minimize possible bending of the emblem.
