CB500 Carb rebuild...what the heck is this?
« on: March 30, 2006, 05:09:54 PM »
Hi guys, I searched all the appropriate places but couldn't find any info on my problem.  Also looked in my manual and couldn't spot it.  That may be due in part to me not knowing what to call it.

In the keyster kits there is a small aluminum 'bushing', and also an aluminum washer.  Can anyone tell me what these are and where they go?  Thanks, sorry if this has been answered elsewhere.  Its a 72 model, by the way.

I believe that the aluminum washer is for the float bowl drain screw.  I could not figure out what the bushing was for and they are still in a parts box following last year's carb rebuild.

Those bits came with my K&L kits as well. I studied the manuals -- and the carbs -- for at least an hour, looking for where I might put the silly things.

So while I'm of no help whatsoever in answering the question, I'd like to thank the thread parent for improving my self esteem.  8)

Into the trash with them then.  I must have flipped that carb over 25 times looking for a place to stick them.  Maybe those kits span different carbs for CB's, and that piece is actually used on something.

I already have a manicure, I'm suprised you didn't recognize it.  Its called the 87 octane special, and it comes by the gallon.  ;D

Thanks for the replies.

The ally bushing is for a completely different carb--god only knows why its supplied, cant remember the washer but sometimes there is one on the spring on the idle mix screw

That bush looks like the small thingy that goes between No 3 & No 4 carb just above the float bowl. It's were the return spring hooks on (I think)

Well, the spring bits on my '73 500 aren't like that. It's sort-of close, but no cigar.

The only "real-world" advice I can give is that those two bits (well, 8 bits, all told) are sitting in a drawer someplace and the bike runs just fine.
