Art Luthurie /Godin family of guitars.
« on: February 26, 2011, 01:52:27 PM »
After months of yakking about getting a new guitar, and scouring e-bay I was supposed to go to the pawn shop, about  to help a friend choose her guitar. I ended up taking a nap instead and hoped she didn't make a mistake. I told her to not get in a rush just because she got her taxes back.

She had talked about getting  a "little guitar" so the brand name "Art Luthierie" had come up several times because of their parlor guitars.

Though she didn't have a chance to select a parlor guitar, she ended up with an A&L spruce top. As far as I can tell she did good, nice student guitar- sounds good , and plays nice, not Asian (not that there is anything wrong with that per-se). I'm happy she didn't end up with a POS. Most importantly she's really happy too .

Anyone had a bad experience with one of these?

I have never tried one but the company seems pretty cool.  The sister/parent company Godin makes a nice archtop for not much money, well under $1000, that is made in Canada out of laminated Canadian cherry.  I thought this was an odd choice but people love the guitars.  It looks like they make a conscience effort  to use local woods and responsible business practices.
I did try one of the mentioned Godins and it was a great guitar for the money, but not quite what I was looking for.  Hope she likes hers, it looks pretty nice!
