first bike/build project 1974 honda 350f
« on: February 23, 2011, 07:04:10 PM »
Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum as well to motorcycles. So this will be a long process for me. The begging of this month a guy at work started telling me about his bobber he was building and got me really wanting to try my hand at it. That day i started looking for a cheap bike that i could build off of. I came across a 1974 honda 350F. it ran fine for the condition it was in so i went ahead and took a shot, paid 350 for it. It was pretty rough when i got it. Got it home and immediately tried to get into it. But with little success. I just want to ride the dang thing since it is my first bike. So i rode it around the block and got it out of my system. So here are some pics of what it looked like when i picked it up and my progress so far of eliminating wires out of the harness i do not want anymore.

Cant figure out how to add pic, like i said, big noob at this. any help? sorry

ok got a photobucket account and trying it this way, flikr didnt work. Thanks everyone, this forum has brought me up to speed so far. good info. I am trying to decide between a bobber or a cafe racer, leaning towards a bobber.

When i went to shorten the chain the bolt head broke off so i having to replace the whole unit because i drilled a crap job on it.

The pile of wires and units that have no location yet(before i started ripping into the harness to take out blinker and horn wires)

Got my pods on yesterday but didnt have time to get and pics of them yet or any of my further progress. more to come later. It ran 10 times better once i got the pods on.
Anyone know if you can run the 350F without a battery? From what it appears it needs it but not completly sure. looked on here with no sucess.

wow, 350 and it ran...and moved and stopped? man that's a good find.
Not sure about the overall style on the tank though. :)

As for running without a battery check this thread out http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=50427.0 might give some insight...
Eventually I'll get something that runs, but until then I'll wrench until I make it run.

Also, another 'new' project 1975 Honda CB400F.

yeah that tank is junk  :-\ , but i will use it for now because it does not have any rust in it. I have all the original parts but do not plan to use any of them except the tank. The original tank is coated with rust on the inside but it dent free :). Is POR-15 the way to go with tank rust removal and coating? it is just cost a 1/3 of what i paid for the bike and trying to keep it on a budget. dont want to spend over 1000 total on the build.

Thanks for the link, will read into it. I see where people say they do it, but have not found out how to go about not using a battery.
