RPM vs. Speed
« on: April 04, 2006, 02:01:50 AM »
I am breaking in my k1 after rebuilding the top end.
I notice in 5th gear that the RPM's vs. speed seem to be linear.in other words
2000 rpm's = 20mph
3000 rpm's =45mph
4000 rpm's =60mph
5000 rpm's = 75mph
Since I am still breaking it in I am trying to keep this under 5000 rpm's
My question is does the bike speed vs Rpm's stay linear up to 8K?,
which would bring you up to 120 mph.
Thanks
just wondering.

My K0 runs exactly as your K1 as to RPM's vs. speed in top gear and I'm running stock wheels, sprockets, etc. The correlation should remain linear throughout the tack range I would imagine, but never had it to 120 though.. no plans to either.  ;D

If you think about it, the relationship will be linear in each gear (a different ratio of course - that's what a gearbox is for!)

This does not mean that your bike will pull 120 though - it may be geared for 120 at 8000rpm, but runs out of power with which to overcome the rolling and wind resistance.

This might help, and also explains Steve's comment on the speed, note the slight difference between the numbers for one rider vs. two. This is from the shop manual, I think most manuals include these graphs.

Thanks
I guess i rebuilt it right then.
I have stock everything except exhuast and handlebars.

I only have about 150 miles so far on it.
The only thing I do not like about the bike is the hieght. I am 5'6" and cannot stand flatfooted. I lowered the back shocks and the front forks.
I guess I need shorter back shocks.

How do you go about cutting foam out of the seat?
I know you must remove the cover, but wont you have a seat cover that no longer fits correctly?

Start a new thread called "How do I cut down a seat?" or similar as those who have done it may not have seen this post.
