How do I figure out what size inner tube?
« on: February 24, 2011, 03:55:12 PM »
I need a new front tire on my 1980 cb750k, and am ordering a tire online. The tire that is on there is a 3.50 H19. How do I figure out what size inner tube to order?

Thanks

Personally, I would try a 3.50 X 19.

Tubes are usually multi-sized, so you'll likely find one that says its a "3.25-3.50/19"  or  "3.50-4.00/19". Either would work. I would prefer the smaller one if available as its easier to stuff into the tire.  The larger one would have a bit more bulk. Still it would work.

FWIW

In times gone by, when all tires had tubes (yeah, I'm old) we used a good bit of talcum powder in tires to "lube" the tube/tire inside.

Also, we always aired 'em up to proper pressure, removed the valve core (hang on to the valve stem so it doesn't draw into the tire - still have a "valve" tool for this) and let all the air out. This allows the tube to relax inside the tire to prevent any wrinkles in the tube (which can cause a "wear" leak later. Then, we put the valve core back in and aired 'em to proper pressure. (Yeah, I learned this the "hard way" on a car tire!)
