Kick starter delete
« on: September 17, 2010, 09:01:17 AM »
Instead of doing any work today I made a kick starter delete. I'm not going to use the kick starter and I think it looks cleaner without it.
And as an added benefit it only weighs 25 grams.

What will you do about the fact that the kick starter gear drives the oil pump, and that gear runs on the kick start shaft?

thats what i was wondering. Most the kick start delete i have seen is just a neet little cap to cover the shaft.

I didn't know the kick start shaft is also the support for the oil pump idler gear I am going to be removing it and will mod  or make a new shaft for the idler gear.

It's too bad, your piece looks quite well made and is flush with the cover instead of protruding.

You could, perhaps, make a new longer piece that takes the place of the kick start shaft, but it would probably be quite complicated as you'd need to duplicate the shoulders etc on the kicker shaft that hold the gear in it's proper location.  I guess you could also cut down a stock kicker shaft to make it work.

back from the bottom of the pile. Im pretty sure im not going to be running a kicker. Could you cut the kicker shaft short and install a plug like his?

on a 500/550 you can remove the entire assembly, dont ruin the shaft!
