So, decided to start working on the tail section while waiting for gaskets and stuff to arrive.

Built a wooden buck - which i forgot to take pics of!     - and then filled it with expanding foam.

Now, i've used the stuff before - admittedly not this particular brand - but i have NEVER seen it expand like this!!!

    




After a little sweet loving from a bread knife, the tail-section-within-the-mutant-beast began to reveal itself.





Not totally satisfied, so a little more cutting and Voila!




The tape is to try and see how the tail flows in relation to the tank.
Not bad i reckon!
Going to hit it with bondo tomorrow, see if there is anymore beauty to be revealed!

Will you make a fiberglass mold out or your foamed tail peice or is that going to be the actual tail? Like your budget solutions!

The foam tail piece and the gray panels on the seat area (painted ply-wood!) are the buck that i'm planning to use to make the seat/tail section.

Will get some more time on it tomorrow, more pics then - hopefully!

Got some time to sling some body filler at the tailpiece today...



I shaped it with sandpaper on a long board. It still needs a lot more filling and sanding, but the basic shape is making me all warm and fuzzy 



I'm struggling on getting a nice curve at the very rear of the piece - any body guys got some suggestions?

Desert rat racer - you said you like the budget solutions i'm coming up with? This will make you laugh - or cry!! Check out what i used for the strengthening ribs on the seat base


Trimmed off the pointy ends. Moulded them in with some  body filler, a quick coat of primer  and they work a treat!

Alright, finally got the cases apart!

According to my wonderful Haynes manual, in order to remove my primary shaft from the lower case i need a....Primary Shaft Puller!!
Anyone got any suggestions on where i can get my hands on one of these mythical tools??

A special tool may not be necessary - I think FunJimmy ran across this a while ago, might wanna pm him.
