Source for 110mm rotor bolts?
« on: February 28, 2011, 11:55:47 AM »
I have everything ready to go for my dual disc setup on my '74 550 aside from hoses (easy) and bolts.  What do you guys source the bolts from or where do you get them?  Sure, I could do something from Fastenal or McMaster, but I'm trying to retain an OEM finish and not spend an arm and a leg.

If you're looking for the zinc plated bolts of the proper length....good luck.  When I did mine, I used stainless bolts from McMaster and I had to shorten them to the right length and face the heads a little to clear the speedo drive.  If I had the zinc plated bolts, I couldn't have done this without the fear of rust setting in on the exposed metal.

Graingers has the bolts you need that are zinc plated. They are around $10.00 for the 6 bolts.

I'm in the same boat with my 550.  I've been scouring the net looking for bolts and zinc or stainless are the only options I've found.  The original finish is chrome and nobody makes them.  GL1000 bolts (OEM #90122-371-000, discontinued) should work, if you can find some.  I'm torn between going to Fastenal or the junkyard.

Good Luck

Oh, wait, hold the phone.  I think this is what we're looking for:

I have to hit the junkyard anyway, but if that doesn't work out I may have to give these guys a shot.

I went to bikebandit, entered 8x110 in the search bar, and got a list of Honda bolts from various bikes.  Just another idea . . . .

The nice thing about it is that you can click on the "applications" link to find out where the bolts were used.  Lots of info.

I went to the local hardware store to get mine.  Found out that they didn't carry any metric long enough.  What to do?  Went over to the SAE stuff, 3/8 x 4 1/2" and nyloc nuts.  Perfect fit!  No need to do anything with clearance, speedo drive clears just fine.

Then I'd have to use those damn fraction wrenches that get shoved to the back of the tool box!   :P

Hi. Where did you find the "applications" link with the reverse part number lookup? Thanks! RR

The "applications link" is actually called (on the web page) "Fits machines".

How did I find it?  Just a lot of internet searches, trying to find what fits what, or what interchanges with what.  Unfortunately, bikebandit has changed over to their own part number system, but when searching, Honda part numbers are still recognized - and as indicated, parts descriptions can get you there too, as long as you know what Honda originally called a part (sometimes the name isn't what you'd think it would be).
