still listening to WHP 580, news on the hour, and they just stated about Gov. Wolf's  mask mandates and wearing masks indoors, at home.....Caught me off guard, so I didn't catch all of the statement .....just to be clear, at home is not a mandate.....is that the confusion?..... it's what they want us to do..
Hey, just lett'in you in on my universe.....

In somewhat of a coincidence, an analysis by the Federation of American Scientists published two days ago and reported on yesterday shows that North Dakota has the worst daily mortality rate (as a percentage of population) in the world at 18.2 deaths per million people, followed by South Dakota (home of Sturgis!) at 17.4 (which ranks it third in the world).  https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/526324-north-dakota-records-worlds-highest-covid-19-mortality-rate

If you don't believe that science and scientists and scientific consensus is somehow a conspiracy to -- I'm still not sure here, is it to "control you"? -- there are a couple of fascinating reports on the Federation's website.

"Covid misiniformation is killing people" -- https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/covid-misinformation-is-killing-people1/

"Scientific consensus on the Covid-19 pandemic: we need to act now" -- https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(20)32153-X/fulltext

The report on North Dakota blames public policy, including the refusal to support the use of masks. Both N and S Dakota have the lowest rates of mask wearing in the country, and Dr. Ali Mokdad, of the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, compares the rates to a war-torn nation.

Of course if you believe that scientists, academics, the media are all part of a conspiracy and that scientific consensus isn't meaningful, then this news will ring hollow. You're probably not sick, so that means the whole thing is probably overblown and just hysteria. If you are in N or S Dakota, stay safe. Everywhere else for that matter too.

from: health.nd.gov - the official North Dakota health website...

Using the IFR, Infection Fatality Ratio.......and as of today in ND.....

67,230 cumulative known infected total.....785 deaths of people with covid......1.16% death rate....BUT...
However:                                      636 deaths due to covid.................0.94% death rate
but also.                                      506  are 80+ in age.......................0.75%. death rate
                                                               147    70-79..................................0.21%...
                                                                74.     60-69..................................0.11. %.....
...and so on...37 deaths,50-59...11 deaths,40-49....7 deaths,30-39....etc.
It's on their website.....I can post the pics , if needed.
and also, that is "known" infected. A lot more unreported infected people would be part of the total so the  motality rate would be even lower....
Using the IFR method is the best way to measure severity, debatable I guess.
See how numbers can be ...interpreted.......not anywhere close to your scary information.
....Lets make sure it's understood that one death is terrible....no doubt......
But the sky isn't falling........

And more rules can be posted of Pa.......actually, I was being satirical about outside, driving, and walking....but upon further investigation, it's not too far from reality.
And oregon? they can come after you for your indoor thanksgiving celebration.

I don't think you guys understand how the data is calculated, and Cal -- I know, we've been through this, math is hard -- but deaths per million is a standard measure, so for an area with fewer than 1 million people, you would have to do a little math to get an equivalent for 1 million (they're not just adding a couple hundred thousand). Let me know if you need help, and I can write a formula for you so you can calculaute this yourself, if you need a little help.  The mortality rate, jlh, is not 18.4% of people who are infected, but rather there are 18.4 out of 1 million people dying every day over the past 14 days. You guys have to do better than that at reading comprehension.

While I appreciate your folksy tough guy persona and inability to understand math as much as the next guy, Cal, wearing a mask to save potentially hundreds of thousands of lives doesn't seem like that big of a deal to the vast majority of (non-internet tough guy, don't care about anyone else) people. But hey, inconvenience be damned! The scientists, doctors, medical professionals and everyone else aren't conspiring (my hyperbole), they're just lying to everyone and you're one of the few people who get it. You're not only tougher than everyone else, you're smarter than them too (er, except see math and reading comprehension above -- but don't let truth get in the way, you're cute when you're cantankerous!).

Yup, run from the data and return to your hyperbole. Never let the facts dissuade your argument.

Hi Cal, I thought I explained pretty well how you guys are misinterpetating what this data is saying, and remember -- I'm not manipulating it, I'm just letting you guys know what a bunch of those wacky scientists (who are also trying to control you) are reporting. Let me know if you need me to try again.

In the meantime, stop acting like people are asking crazy things of you, or that people who care about other people and are taking precautions are "cowering in our basements." We're just being careful and wearing masks when we are out and around other people. It's really not a big deal.

Here’s a little bonus. To understand the scale of the numbers in North Dakota, if they were proportionately applied to the rest of the United States (using more of that pesky math) it would be the equivalent of around 6500 people dying per day in the US alone.

It will just end up making hard feelings for those involved or judgements being made by others that will effect how they may feel for another person here. Its all way too political, toxic and supercharged and does no purpose to be hashed out here on a motorcycle forum where there should be a unity and bond of us fellow riders/bikers hopefully helping each other out. I say lock it up - there will be no 'winners' in this argument. Eric
