Make it happen. You will totally regret it later, but make it happen.

That's what I'm thinking. Can Rick and Daphne make it out?

Hey guys, I've been focusing on surviving so I've been away from the forum for a bit. Things are looking up and thankfully I haven't had to bug out in the woods. I've got a new job at Denny's on MLK. I want to thank everyone for helping me out when I posted my rant; especially Brad. It's because of the money I was able to earn that I've been able to get by.

Hopefully I will have the funds to start on my bike soon. I doubt I'll make the ride, but if all goes well I should be able to have her running well before BBQ. I'm still in well with Mac so I should be able to get parts off him for random work.

I had an idea. It may not be a good idea, but that's why I'm running it past you guys. I walked into Bill Eddy's and saw a vmax with it's air scoops.

I was wondering if something like that could be done with my 750. My idea is to have large tubes running from the scoops past the intake for the carbs and out through a butterfly valve. The carbs can pull the needed air when the valve is open. When the valve is closed at a higher speed it would ram air into the carbs.

Like I said, no idea if it would be a good idea or not. I assume bigger jets would be needed.

Its not. Theres some discussion on the forum here somewhere. These carbs are not set up to be pressurized. Thats all i lnow though so take it with a grain of salt. Congrats on the job. Glad to hear things are looking up and thanks for letting us know. I was wondering how you guys were doing.

Ditto on the pressure. Also, I wouldn't try and do anything extremely fancy until you get some miles in. Riding a stock bike is way cooler than staring at one in pieces in your garage. I speak heavily from experience on this one.

Glad to hear things are getting better.

Hey Brad, is Harrison still selling the booze?

I'd like to find a hotel spot close to a restaurant with beverages.

I thought that might be the case.

I agree. I'm not planning to do anything other than get her running right now.
My road map roughly goes:

Fix points and spray fuel into cylinders so I can hear the engine for the first time.

Clean and reassemble carbs.

Start engine and track down any more problems.
[I'm going to plan for more problems, it just seems wise. If anyone knows of any common problems that spring up with sitting bikes I'd love the advice. From what I know the guy who owned it last rode it in and sold it because it was running bad. (If the point was out then that would make since. [So I should hope the guy just didn't know about points and that is the only problem (But I know that's probably wishful thinking)])]

Look really hard at my patch on the crank case. It might hold up. If not I've got a 75 k model case I can use.

Work on back wheel alignment. Might need to swap swing arms but I really like the extended ones. The problem looks to me like the hub of the wheel. I'll try swapping in another one and see if it's that.

Add tail light/ get legal/ tag/ insure/ motorcycle license (optional?)

Get a feel for how she rides and work from there.

Future: (Will happen after I get a feel for the bike)

Redcoat gas tank
K&N cones
Oil cooler (Is there an after market filter that has cooler hookups? It seems like that would be an easy place to add a cooler...)
Steering damper

Down the line: (I don't plan of doing anything insane until I have a 2nd bike.)
Fairing design I've been working on.
Possible side car.
Some other crazy ideas I come up with. I like to tinker with things.

Thanks, I've got a chance now. I'm pretty happy with where I got a job. It's less than a block from my house. I start at 3 today.

Carbs, points, and valve adjustment.  I couldn't recall any discussion on the condition of the carbs on your bike, but it's the same with any bike that's been sitting for an extended period. Fuel becomes varnish and clogs all the passages, jets, and coats the bowls.  Be thorough with the carb cleaning/building.  Adjust your valves properly and set your points.  Change your oil too if you haven't already.  Remember there are two spots to drain on the 750s (pan and oil tank).  If the spark plugs in it look good and are properly gapped, the coils are good, and everything else mentioned above is done, it should fire right up (in theory).

Agreed with above.

Most of these bikes get parked simply because of neglect and normal maintenance.

Suck. Squeeze. Bang. Blow.

Andy is exactly right. Forgo the spray something in the thraots. that will tell you very little bc it will only hit once. Heres your steps for bare minimum start up

Timing chain tightened/set.
Set timing and points. ( confirm you have spark on all cylinders)
Set valves
Clean the carbs THOROUGHLY! If you dont know how ask any of us.
Change oil and filter. You cant change it too much in the begining
After this I just put gas in the bowls, if you can get it to run it will at least run for a minute. long enough to hear any odd scary noises.
I may have missed something so anyone else feel free to chime in......

Maybe it's just the paranoid in me, but usually I will tighten the timing chain, timing/points, and adjust valves like listed above TWICE. Every time I finish the cycle I repeat just to make sure I didn't over tighten anything. Usually there is still a bit of adjustments to be made which all make starting the bike easier.

Also, looks like a new guy named Bob wants to join our ride Saturday. He should be meeting me in Bentonville and riding to meet you guys in Prairie Grove.

He's riding either a R90/6 or a GS650 from the back and forth we had.

Anyone got a good rear brake switch? I have one, but don't think it's got much life left in it if at all.

I've got one crummy one off the 360 that I just replaced.  I'll check the 350 after work and see what it looks like.
