Got back out in the garage for another quick sesh. Mocked up the shorties, and I think I am just going to run them for the time being. They are super easy to mount, and since I am strapped for time, I would rather fool with a new set of mufflers at a later date. I started digging through my parts tubs for the thousandth time to find new things I have been looking for. A lot of misc. screws and bolts to mount my coils and front fender brackets as well as a shifter lever. It was bent up pretty bad, but a few minutes with a vise and piece of pipe we are good to go.

New parts should be in this Friday possibly, so next week I would like to get the new tires/tubes mounted, fork seals/fluid, new chain on, and get the axle adjusters fixed up properly. Head light and tail light should be on their way as well.

Before leaving the house this morning I had to see if it would fire on the first kick. Blammy!

Awesome.  Just checked the weather and there are varying degrees of precipitation chances.  Russellville looks likely, VB so so, NWA highly doubtful.  This message is brought to you by hot coffee.

The lady offered to take the little one to and fro for school today, so I'm rolling on Brad's hot rod.

Be sure to make sure it can wheelie and do stoppies just in case the future owner needs that.

I dished in the top of the tank so I can stunt easier. It will open a whole new market for the sale.

I bet if you took off the headlight and bolted skate board wheels (frame pucks) in various places, it would sell in no time.

Yup.

Just did some math with my budget, and including an extra $250 donor bike I am at a grand total of  $730.09 before getting the seat covered.

I have been a very bad scrambler.  I kind of lost track on the little tidbits long ago.  I'm going to just total up the things I can put numbers on and add 150-200 to that.  By the time I get it painted I bet I'm a tad over budget.   Someone talked me into real paint...

Cecily said one of the guys she works with at her new job at the golf course started talking about bikes yesterday.  She mentioned our growing collection, and he said he had an old CB.  She said she thought he said CB400, but wasn't sure.  He said he was going to be selling it soon though.  I got excited about possibly owning at first, then I realized it'd be way cooler to have a dude around here that I could ride with.  I may see if I can get her to plant the idea of keeping it and riding with a real live Scrambler...

tee hee. Just caught up, been working all morning. Derrick, I trust your judgment. whatever you think will be fine with me. My budget for my scrambler is right around 350 as it sets right now so I think I am going to do pretty well. I dont know if this counts but I removed all the good painted pieces like tank headlight ears sidecovers and deducted what I thought they would reasonably sell for. I estimated 250 and I think thats a low estimate. some guys offset the cost by selling bits. as we know I dont sell.

I think most people do the math that same way. I figure once this bike is built, the parts bike will pay back the $250 easily or just roll into next years build starting me at 0.

It turns out Cecily's coworker doesn't own that bike I mentioned earlier.  It belongs to his buddy.  She said 70-something CB400.  I asked her to dig a little deeper for the sake of curiousity.  If it's a 75-77 (four) then I may go take a look at it.  The price mentioned was super low, so my expectations are that it's actually a later model twin that has been left in a ditch for the majority of its life.

If it's a four, you have to buy it. The universe demands it.

That's kind of what I was thinking.  Cecily didn't even flinch when I got all curious.

they will probably look it up on ebay and see that restored one go for tons of money and are " very collectable" so theirs will then be worth 2 grand.

Luckily, a price was already mentioned, and it was in the neighborhood of what the guy was asking for that SL you picked up.

Just got to see some pictures of the 400 on facebook.  It's a twin....  By the looks of the side covers, I'd say it's a '78.   win some, lose some.  Back to business as usual...

(insert fart smell here). I Guess im stoopid. whats so bad about a hawk. If it was cheep enough I would buy it and have no concern about cutting it up as much as I wanted. Make a unercycle or something out of it. hell the parts ought to be worth something.

There's nothing wrong with it, but I already have twin twins.  I don't feel like shelling out a few hundred bucks for a project I'm not enthusiastic about.  I passed up on a 450 Nighthawk a while back for the same reason.  My extra dough has an intended purpose, so it will take something exciting to get me to redirect it.
