Topic: A cautionary tale for front end swaps

I wanted a GoldWing front end on my cafe, so I cleverly bought all the necessary components as cheap as I could get them, including the calipers.  After assembling the pile I discovered a minor detail was missing:



These are called pad springs. If you buy new calipers dont make the same mistake I did. Get COMPLETE calipers, make sure these are in them! It didn't occur to me I couldn't buy them from Honda, but, you guessed it: Out of production.  I had "needed" ads up here and all over the place with no responses. I wound up buying new calipers with these little rascals in them. So, if you are swapping in front ends, make sure you get these. And don't lose them!

I just bought a 78 750F last week and when going over it I open the little tool box under the seat cowl and I saw one of these in there. I had no idea what it was. I havent thrown it away and now I definitely wont.
I have no idea on the shape of the calipers but now I know to watch for this.

Good catch on the 750F. I am using a 77 F rear and stupidly lost the damned thing. Same thing, out of production. Fortunately, just before I bought another caliper just for the darned thing, I found it in the bottom of a box of parts. I must have thrown it there in a drunken hurry last year. Whew!

 Man I got to stop throwing those out..

 No money in calipers it seems.. every second one has a ritted piston, and shipping to states is soooo high..

 maybe I should sell the clips and scrap the rest...
