CB400 seat lock key - same as ignition key?????
« on: March 02, 2011, 09:50:35 PM »
Tonight I was able to remove my seat lock which I suspected was siezed up from non use and neglect because it wouldn't accept my key. Once I removed it from the bike, I was better able to examine it and soon discovered that my key wasn't the right shape!!
Is this normal?? Is the ignistion key supposed to open the seat lock as I assumed??
My ignition looks stock... and so does the key...

Well, no experience with the cb400's.  But on all my Honda's there are numbers stamped into the face of the lock.  usually a letter and four numbers or something.  You can check to see if the numbers on both of your locks match (if it has them).

I would have to remove the ignition to see the number but I can read the seat lock number no problem.
I think I will have to carry two keys but would rather not but don't see any choice in the matter unless I change the ignition to match the seat lock... sounds like a pain to me!!!

Carrying two keys isn't to bad, I have that on my 750,  just had to make them look different and put them on a key-chain.  wasn't about to spend alot of money on the convenience of one key.  pretty inexpensive to have a key made for a seat lock.

It turns out that they are supposed to be keyed the same... had to buy new keys for the seat lock only to learn that the ignition had to have been replaced...
No biggie, two keys still means I am riding when spring arrives!! ;D
