Topic: Newbie cafe bike

Hey guys, Im pretty new to this whole 2 wheel thing. I just got my bike this sunday and so far have moved it about 20 feet in the snow covered driveway. Its a '77 cb750k that I was told was running 2 years ago and only needs a new ignition after a failed theft and a battery. I have the title so I know that it wasn't actually stolen . I have always been a little scared of buying a motorcycle but figured that its about time I get over that fear. I hope to get a safety course in before the spring hits and have this bike ready to go around that same time. I already ordered a new ignition and will try to bring the old battery back to life with a little water and a charge, if that doesn't work ill get a new battery and see if I can fire it up. Anyway here are a few shots of my newest hobby







I got quite a bit of spare parts thrown in with it, there are a few headlights and 2 sets of carbs in there as well. One slide type and one butterfly


I will more than likely sell these since I really do not want em.

and I was told that this is seized up, have not messed with it at all yet but its nice to have laying around

the carbs with the yellow tops are the correct carbs for that bike. both sets are slides it looks like. the butterflys are most likely the choke. it looks like someone at some point put earlier carbs on it. nice bike, the k7-8 in my opinion are awesome. the saddle bags are nice, are you looking to get rid of them?

The engine will mostly likely free up with some patience, my motor had been locked up for ~7 years. Once I broke it loose it ran like a champ. Good luck with your project

Welcome to the SOHC world!  Nice find to get started.  I would recommend a sealed battery for a replacment. Take it easy on the safety course.......and then even easier on the street!  It takes many hours in the saddle to demonstrate to yourself before you should 'demonstrate' for others.

Im going to start messing with this thing this weekend to see what I can get going. Id like to atleast get it running and Im not going to spend any $ on kewl parts until I know how it runs. Also, I do not want to start selling off old parts until I know that Im going to keep it.

masterchief, I will let you know when/if I sell the bags. If I keep the bike then ill be getting rid of the bags since they do not fit what Im going for here

After Im done messing with getting the bike running (and the project car that you can see in the background gets some work), I may start tearing into the spare motor. Im sure I can get it spinning and maybe running if needed

I do have one concern rite now about the transmission. I know that its a 5 speed but when I try to shift it, I can pull the shift lever up and hear it click into each gear but only 3 times. It seems like it does not want to shift into 4th. Ive tried it a few times, pushing the lever down a few times to make sure that Im in neutral then up again and it only goes up 3 gears

If you're talking about the tranny on the spare, put some forward or backward pressure(just with your fingers) on the countershaft sprocket while you're working the shifter.The dogs are undercut and need a little budge to disengage when at rest.
