Topic: Is my brake piston fubar?

probably, but how the hell should i know... any input is appreciated. oh and if i could afford the time and cash, i would have just bought a new one any way, but if i gotta, i gotta. the seal came out in multiple pieces, so im hoping the piston will do... whats that old saying? wish in one hand and something in the other?

Looks borderline. Depends on where the pits hit in relation to the seal. With new pucks, assuming the old oones were worn, the pits will be at a different place, unfortunatley, maybe closer or under the seal.

Try it, if it leaks get a new one.

Take a sharp pick and clean out the pits and then using a sharp flexible plastic squeegee (made from a milk jug) scrap a small amount of JB Weld across the pits. Sand smooth with very fine sandpaper.  Or for around $35 a member here makes phenolic replacements that seem to have a good rep.  Do a search for those.

ya, i kinda figured it was shot, or damn close. and its not like its gonna get any better... and $35 is doable. phenolic piston it is. too bad, its like 68 and sunny

I reused mine with no issues and it was in slightly worst shape than yours.

Get a new seal from your Honda dealer and make sure you clean out the groove properly.

Search on here for "caliper rebuild" and you will find more than enough info.

i rebuilt my caliper last week, the piston's in worse shape than that and its been serving me fine.

I've got two of Kevin's pistons, in my dual disk setup and recommend them.  Smart money (and not too much of it) to spend.  Once you put out the money for one of his pistons, which don't cost a whole lot more than a new seal, your worries about sticking or corroding brake internals are gone forever.
