15mm X 60mm piston pin
« on: March 01, 2011, 10:31:51 AM »
Not really liking the quality of the 15mm piston pins in the wiseco kit i got, neither the fact that they have a 3mm wall thickness, hence really heavy.

As I've learned to appreciate the quality of original honda piston pins (and their convenient price :) ), is there any honda model out there that has a 15mm diameter X 60mm (or longer) piston pins?

Have mounted the ones supplied by wiseco already but will be happy to swap them ASAP with something lighter

eventually yoshimura 812ccm (bore 64mm) pins are good for you. tapered and lightweight.

Cool, where do i find them?

BTW, my cylinder bore is 69mm, the PIN LENGTH has to be 60mm.... Would the 64mm Yosh pistons have a 60mm pin then?  ::)

Several guys told me about those Yosh pins, but I think they are unobtanium. I looked a long time for lightweight tapered pins and couldn't find any the length I needed.

I don't have a CB450/500 piston but try to find the length of that one. The CB350 twin piston is 64mm, but the pin is 56mm, CB750 is 53, CBX1000 is 51mm.

Maybe you'll need to taper some new Wiseco pins. I used the 3mm walled CBX1000 pins and shaved them from 44.4gm's down to 38.2.

You might also check CP Pistons, they had several options for pins.

Good Luck.

I'd guess Japan......about 30 to 35 years ago. Seriously..... Yosh has ties with so many Japanese OEM part manufacturers that who knows who made them. ???

Wiseco does not list a 15 X 60 mm pin. There Honda kits come with a 56 mm long pin. We have a tool steel replacement for those.

Did your pistons come from Wiseco with a 60 mm pin?

hi jay

just as i was planning to write you...

it's the kawasaki 69mm 810 kit, the pins there are 60mm.

the pins that came with it are straight wall and pretty heavy

the reason i posted this here in sohc was to check if there was any stock honda 15mm pin of such length (or more, it's easy to shorten) as from my experience, the stock honda pins have been better quality than the ones  i got with all sorts of aftermarket pistons.

but having one of your tool steel pins could be another option

Man it is sooooooooo easy to taper them before heat treat and grinding.. should not be too difficult  for someone to make them...

You are correct S526 pins. We never made a pin for that as no one ever made enough power with the NA 810 to need a tool steel pin, and the turbos are 16 mm.

I'll bet someone could pull that off, 4 pins, for probably less than $100 each.  ;D

Thanks Jay

OK then, long story short, I need such pins :)

Straight wall will do.
