Cycle X Power Kit vs. Yoshi + Dyna S system?
« on: March 05, 2011, 11:39:18 AM »
Hey guys looking for opinions or just reviews of the following mods.

Cycle X Power Kit (Power Arc + 4-2-1 exhaust)

or

Yoshi Exhaust Rep (MotoGpWerks) and Dyna S with the new coils

They are pretty much priced around the same. Looking for any help regarding ease of installation, performance gains, and all around customer satisfaction.

I have been strongly considering the Power Kit 2 with the cam upgrade but I am not exactly engine savy, so i was looking for the best gains for a direct bolt on to a strong stock motor. I was going the Dyna + Yoshi route and then i discovered cycle x website. OMG changed my life btw. A certain person's website has been rippin me off with his insane markups.

I have a 1978 Cb750F supersport. Thanks in advance you guys are awesome.

First off, its your bike running OK with the current whatever setup you have now?

What kind of "performance upgrades" are you looking to wreak upon your bike? Neither of these options will net much of an upgrade to the performance over a stock bike.

What kind of money are you looking to spend?

To really get performance out of a stocker 78F you would need to: bore bigger- new pistons and rings, valve porting, new valve springs and retainers, rejet old carbs/new CR carbs, put in a hotter cam, along with heavy camchain and tensioner, all this would definitely require a new clutch and clutchplates and springs- basically a total engine teardown to maybe net above 100HP. And bam, you just blew $5KUS or probably more. I'm sure I forgot a few other things, other people can chime in to help you out.

Bottom line is the options you listed are not really "performance upgrades", they are just different ignition and exhaust systems that would require jetting adjustments to your carburetors at a bare minimum.

I recently ordered the Cycle X ign. after extensive search bar research. I did it because I'm overdue to replace my stock stuff and I'm hoping to get better gas mileage and performance out of that three spark set-up. I doubt it'll be as dramatic as DukieDooks suggestions ;), but every lil bit helps. As far as the exhaust goes, I'd say Dukiedook's right, no real performance gain. However, when I put the Kerkers on my bike i did save 10 lbs. My co-worker continually scoffs at my weight saving efforts ("It's a MOTORCYCLE, you'll never feel a couple pounds difference!") every lil bit helps. I've cut about 50 lbs. off the bike so far and it is a noticeable difference in the twisties as well as just pushing it around the shop. I know because I also have a stock bike to compare it to.
So much to do, so little time.

honestly I dont need a race bike. I just figured if im taking the time to rebuild it and make it look brand new i wanted it to run brand new. My plan was to do iginition and exhaust and maybe a cam and a new clutch. maybe go the 836 kit in the future.

I was talking to Chris at MotoGPWerks and he said "do the iginition, exhaust, and carbs and you will more than be happy with how your bike runs mate."

I've budgeted about 1200 bucks towards performance upgrades. The engine only has 20k miles on it as it was sitting in a garage for 20 years.

Im going to go with the Power Arc Ignition and the MotoGpWerks header, i'll probably add in the cycle x drop in cam. That should give me enough power. Hopefully nothing is too difficult to install. The guys at cycle x said they have pretty detailed instructions.
