Show me your (other than black) frame/wheel colors!
« on: March 09, 2011, 10:39:11 AM »
About to have the frame and wheels powder coated on my 350F... but I'd like to see some alternatives to the standard black. If you guys have some pics, lets see em!

I haven't had my frame powder coated yet, I expect to have to do some more modifications to it to accomodate the seat/tail-section design and mounting.  I did pick out the color before I started the project though and so I've been doing small parts to match what is coming.  This includes my wheels and some of the engine covers.  Here's some pictures of what I've done so far:

Anyone out there with some grey or silver frames to show off? Was thinking of going gunmetal on the frame and wheels...

Nice. Yeah I dont want it overly loud - but noticeable.
I'm leaning towards matching the wheels and frame/swingarm... maybe somewhere between a dark gunmetal and silver...
one of my favorites but not sure i want the blue for my 350...

I'm going with a PCed emerald green on the frame and brackets, very dark but with some very faint gold flake in it.  All of the stock aluminum covers and suspension parts are polished, but nothing has been chromed.  I'm doing the swing arm and triple tree in black, the shocks are black too.  The bodywork will be painted black with real-fire in a very very deep organic candy green emerging from the front of the tank and front of the tail section and fading ghost-like into the back into the black.

Everyone's got to figure out their own paint scheme of course, but I would recommend this to you when you think about it.  Do a search on "Color Wheel" and go do a little reading on selecting colors for your highlights, be they contrasting or otherwise.  A color wheel can be your best friend, particularly when picking out things like accent or pin-striping color.

my buddy has a cb175 its a 36 lace wheel so we pulled all the laces polished half of them an the other hallf is getting powdercoated red, an when he laces them every back spoke will be red I think it will be pretty cool ill post some pics if anyone is interested in seeing them when they are done

My CB450 has black wheels, but you might like the frame, the color is anthrecite. Its poweder coat. Its like gunmetal and silver in one. Its two stage, color then clear. Its very nice.

The whole album can be seen here http://s840.photobucket.com/albums/zz321/kldinsmoor/Hammer%20Head/

That is a beautiful bike!  I went and looked at your full album, really, well done!  I love that color match between the gray of the frame and the green/grays/black of the bodywork and rest of the bike.  Excellent, just plain excellent; super tasteful.

Hey thanks Cobra & Kong, glad you like it, someting different but similar. My SOHC4 is still my first true love.

The color of the frame really does stand out. It was suggested by Benjie to paint the frame in his words "not black" . He did say just like that too, "paint the frame not black" with the different shapes the frame should stand on its own and by using a different color it really pops. I pulled it together by painting the same color as a pinstipe between the green and black on the body work. I hope this helps give you some ideas on colors.
