750 Chop with Cycleone frame
« on: March 09, 2011, 09:28:34 AM »
I started building a bike last October while working in Alberta.  I already had a 74 750 that I've been trying to decide what to do with.

It had 15K kms...probably 115000. The bike was bought by my father on an impulse for 300.00. Too good to pass up even though the guy said it hadn't been running since he bought it. When I bolted on my carbs it fired right up and sounded real good. So I installed a webcam 41a cam I had laying around and tuned it up. Thats how it sat until I decided to build.

I really liked a Frame that was posted on the cycleone website gallery. I seen it while building my cafe but I could not afford it at the time. So, I ordered the frame, gas tank, and oil tank and had them sent to my hometown in Nova Scotia.

While home on days off I managed to remove the engine from the frame and lace up a set of wheels I had.  They're Borrani 18" ers with Buchanans HD stainless spokes.  At first I was planning on running a rear disk but soon after opted for Drum.

Before heading back to work out west.. guess what?? THE FRAME ARRIVED!!!

The specs are 4" in the backbone, -1" downtube, 36 degree rake, goosenecked, and a 2" rear standard stretch. I also had them use their 20mm vintage style axle plates.

I had myself a roller a few hours later...

For those interested... Cycleone is an Excellent company to deal with, Top notch service and Kate was awesome to answer any questions I had.

The gas and oil tank I bought off eBay. The gas tank is called a wassell style I think?  and the oil tank they call a pill capsule.

I bought a spring solo seat but it just wasn't the look I wanted so that got put to the side along with the clubmans. Even for me (6'2") its too far of a stretch. haha

The first time I inquired about this frame they were still in Regina, only to find out halfway through the ordering process this time they moved to Oklahoma. haha. I almost ordered this frame a few years back.

I finished up out west in Dec. and have been picking at it ever since.

Drilled the front rotor. I had a friend(who owns a digital printer) make a decal to stick on the rotor. that way all the holes ended up in the correct spot. I also had him do one for the rear drum cover, although I'm going to add another row of holes onn the top

ordered parts from lowbrow and cycle X.  taillight, clutch lever, 3.5 inch headlight, drag bars, chrome throttle housing and some gaskets and seals. I also found a cool chrome kickstand on ebay. I cut the kickstand bracket off a cb500 frame and fit it.

I started fabing a seat..just wasn't feelin the solo seat. I used 1/8 plate for the bottom. 3/8 round bar to give me a shape, and body metal to cover.. turned out good I think.. I also got a pipe from cycle X.. I can't wait to fire it up.

I also made a license plate/tail light combo, a rubber roller so the chain doesn't smack my oil tank(I'll also be running a chain tensioner on bottom if it ever gets here), and a switch box under the seat. Gives me a place to hide my fuses too.  I think the reg/rec will be going on under the backside of the seat.

Ha no worries. The front end reminds me of this Ural that I absolutely love for some reason.

Here are the controls I used. Had them laying around from another bike. I think they're dunstall maybe? Picked up some new rubbers when I was at British Cycle Supply. I love that place.

No pictures of this yet fellas but for those interested I found out that a Honda 300ex quad MC will accept a cb750 lever. that way you still have matching levers. By fluke I was selling some parts from a scraped 300ex and needed a MC for my bike. To my surprise the cb750 MC lever bolted right on..sweet!

That frame would make a good foundation for a Landspeed build at the Salt Flats!  Nice work and good ideas..........I'm concerned about right turns and the muffler. If you want to change the wheel sizes...........21 front and fat-16 or 17 rear........I would take dibs on your 18-inch wheels.

I found the rims in a sea-can behind the local Honda dealership... actually I gave there mechanic 10.00 for the rear laced to an F hub, then a few weeks later I was allowed to dig in their sea-can where I found the match....and they gave it to me. SWEET!

Theres a few inches left between the pipe and the pavement on a decent lean.... I think it will be OK.  Contemplated a 21/18 combo

A friend of mine just bought a lathe, so his first project was to make me a speedo eliminator(spacer) haha we made 2, not sure which one I'll use.

Another friend of a friend works with a CNC machine.. had him try to shave the alt. cover. It came out pretty good but rough... spent an hour or so filing and sanding it smooth. I also shaved the valve cover as I did on my cafe. just 220 grit for now.

Drilled and sanded the chain cover aswell...
