Flat spot problem cb550 four.
« on: March 10, 2011, 08:47:00 AM »
I have a 75 cb550 four. It has pod filters, 2-1 dual exhaust w. No restrictions just free flowing megaphone type. It has been jetted to 120 as stock was 110 that came out. I just went through the carbs replaced the main jets, all new seals, they have been dipped and cleaned very well, all floats in spec. carbs are in sync also.

Bike runs well idles well, revs quickly and strong in neutral without any issues. My issues is when I'm riding the bike it will take off fine but when I approach 4500-5500 rpm the bike just stutters I have to hold it wide open for aprox. 20 seconds and then it will come off the flat spot, which feels like a rev limiter, and rev out to redline without any hiccups. I have replaced the plugs and have not put any miles on the bike yet ,due to weather, to do a plug chop. Just wondering if there is anything I should check. I have not adjusted the needles as I'm not sure how this is done. But when I adjust the mixture screws on carb it doesn't have much impact.

Also I will note that the bike will hit that flatspot, rev limiter feeling no matter if I am at 1/4 throttle or full throttle. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, rjcornine
