Front fork of a F2 on a K2
« on: March 18, 2011, 03:57:30 PM »
Hey gang, I've been looking around for options to move my brake caliper to the rear side of my CB750 K2's front fork.

The GL1000 front fork swap is an option, but I understand that the forks will stick out of the triple tree? Also, I don't want to use the GL1000 triple tree, as the bars will be risen. Turn the front forks 180 degrees, this would effectively move the calipers back.

But I noticed that the F series have calipers in on the inside of the front fork. Would this be a simple swap for a dual disc, and will I be able to use the spoked rims that I am using now?

Rgrds, Chris

G'Day Chris, the problem with using F2 forks on a K2 is that the K2 disc and F2 discs are different sizes, and you can't bolt an F2 disc straight onto a K2 hub due to the different bolt patterns, etc etc. You could get your K2 disc machined down (both OD and width) but I don't know if the disc would line up with the F2 caliper, as the discs have different offsets.

Axle size is the same, as is fork tube spacing. You might get away with using a GL1000 front wheel as the discs are similar to F2 items, and I believe that the bolt pattern is the same, so you might even be able to bolt F2 discs to a GL1000 hub, and the benefit there is you'd have a nice alloy front rim as well.

The F2 forks aren't really better than your K2 forks, (internals are pretty much identical) but the twin disc brake setup is much better than the old single disc K2 setup, and it's easier to fit a fork brace, due to the longer alloy sliders. If you can do the conversion I'd say go for it, I personally think reversing the K2 forks has no benefit at all, either aesthetically or for "performance" reasons. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
