experience with hydroblasting?
« on: March 11, 2011, 10:21:20 am »
Any body have experience with hydroblasting? I'm looking to get most of my alluminum parts blasted(forks, sidecovers, tripples...) I looked up hydroblasting in phoenix, but all the places only do large areas such as sidewalks, walls, and tanks and stuff like that.

where do you get this done?

Try the terms "aqua blasting" or "vapor blasting" instead.  I have a feeling this is what you're looking for.

Unfortunately these guys are in the UK, but maybe some of the sandblasting guys in your area know of somebody who does this.

Good Luck

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me like this isn't much more than a typical  powered pressure washer with a small tip. Are the units used to do this anything more than about a 3000 psi washer?

There is a CB400 build forum in the projects section with lots of hydroblasting photos. I'll try to find a link and post it here.

From what I've read about the process, it is water mixed with an abrasive media, usually glass beads, and a little bit of detergent.  The water itself isn't under pressure, it is propelled by compressed air.  Here's a post on Jockey Journal from a guy in Minnesota that does it:

His before and after pics are amazing, and he explains it pretty well.

John,

Thank you very much.  I was much mistaken, this is considerably more than just pressure washing.
