Cheap source for shorty shocks (which stock bikes had them?)
« on: March 11, 2011, 12:23:48 PM »
An inseam challenged friend of mine would like to lower the rear. It's a Nighthawk 450 - eye/clevis style shocks. I'm guessing there will be a lot of options, just don't know what bikes had shorter shocks stock. These come in at 13 1/4 I think, he's looking for something like 11". Something cheap and used will be fine.

If your friend swaps 13 1/4 " shocks for 11", my hunch is that the rear fender will be sitting on the tire. Not to mention the fact that the bike's steering geometry will be fouled up. Of course, your friend could raise the fork tubes in the fork clamps to compensate. Then the bike may be level, but you'll have ground clearance issues, the front fender may smack the frame or exhaust riding over bumps, and the ride may be pretty harsh. Better to cut down the seat and wear thick soled shoes. Or, buy a bike that fits. This is why cruisers, with their extremely low seat heights, are so popular with women.
